Im new to this forum i Just got a 05 obxt 5mt 95000 miles heard stories of up pipe/ cat failure causing blown turbo and blown engine any input on fix would be great

turbo fails, partially because its a crappy turbo and partially because the oil feed screen plugs up and it starves the turbo. pulling the screen and going to a different turbo will prolong the life of the engine. blown turbo on those usually results in blown motor.

I dont know much about turbos what kind should i replace it with? Im a boat diesel mechanic so pretty confident i could swap it out myself. Would it be as simple as removebold install new or wouldbi have to re pipebor modify anything?

welcome! Im over in rockland. Got a white GC RS with a huge scoop and an 05 rs dark blue!

If the turbo has minimal shaft play and the car doesn't burn significant oil (less than .5qts per oil change), just remove the bajo bolt filter, and change the oil with synthetic every 3.5k. It'll be fine on the stock turbo as long as you maintain it. If you start hearing bearing whine come from it one day, rip that sucker out of there and replace it with a vf39 or something more fun ;-)

The problem with many of these is that the factory oil change interval was suggested at 7.5k miles, so crap builds up in the filter screen and clogs oil supply to the turbo. This results in acute catastrophic engine/turbo death.
