As you all know I have been contemplating rebuilding my motor for my RS but I just stumbled upon a 07 2.5 for $900 and was wondering if it would fit in my car without having to do anything?

this is what its out of 2007 SUBARU IMPREZA SEDAN BASE AUTOMATIC VIN # JF1GD61697H519980. I will be calling the this afternoon for more info.

Base model has a 2.5i. 170ish CRANK hp. Sohc. If your planning on this swap, then doing all the regular bolt ons (cai, cbe, and so on) dont expect to see much (if any) hp gains. You would be better off trying to squeeze blood out of a turnip than trying to acheive even a meager gain of 20hp with a 2.5i

I thought I read a 2.5i would swap right in, but the computer wont run the variable valve lift. my 2.5i has plenty of yank with a k&n drop in and axleback. you can always rig up something like what another member (I forget who) did to activate the vvl in his 07 swapped rs

look up killerbee on here he has this set up in his 05 rs

Thanks I looked at the wright up he had on here and it seems like its plug and play for the most part. So the next thing I am going to look into is if I should run my 2.5 heads or if I should run the 2.5i heads and hook them up to a switch like he did.

The 2.5I heads will work fine, the variable valve lift just won't work. I wouldn't put the time or energy into swapping heads.

I might be doing head gaskets and a timing belt before I put it in so it wouldn't be any extra time at all I would have the motor on a stand and I already have the heads off my other motor

The 2.5I heads will work fine, the variable valve lift just won't work. I wouldn't put the time or energy into swapping heads.

I ordered the motor today so it should be here wednesday so hopefully I will be able to put it in this weekend or next.

Got the motor today so hopefully I will start putting it in tomorrow night after work. Cant wait to get her back on the road and get my Camaro into the garage were she belongs.

So the 07 2.5I is not a direct swap but there isn't much you have to change. For starters I had to swap the intake from my 05 on to the 07 since they condensed the two main harness connectors (black and brown) to just the black one on the 07. So I proceeded to swap the intakes and as I was hooking up the 05 intake I found that the coolant temp sensor did not have enough slack to plug in since they put it on the other side of the coolant passage that goes under the intake.

So I finally got the motor in on Saturday night and she is now alive and running good. Needs a few things to get it to run right it only idles at 500 rpm. I'm thinking its my down stream 02 since its not hooked up yet and im also going to do a tune up and see if that works. The only thing I was wondering, would having the heads from the 2.5i hooked up and the variable valve lift no working how would that effect the engine running?

Shouldn't. They run fine before the vvl kicks in, you'll just be lacking a couple ponies at the top end
