15,000 mile maintenance requirements?

Bit of a Canundrum here guys. Not really a big deal but I want to make the right choice. I am approacing 17,000 miles and am about to become due for my 6th oil change on my 2009 WRX, as well as 15,000 mile scheduled maintenance. The reason I did not do the 15,000 mi maint. already was that the dealer told me to wait and take car of it, tire rotation and oil change at my next regular oil change. I have a free oil change comming from this dealer too because I have purchased 5 oil changes from them I get one free. So I get the oil change price reduced from the 15,000 mile maintenance, I also don't need tire rotation because I am putting on snows this week. When I called and asked about getting the reductions in price, the service manager said that if I am doing the wheels elsewhere, then I don't need the 15,000 mile maintenance, just the Oil change, which would be free due to the 5 oil change coupon..... So now I am confused, if all the 15,000 mile maintenance includes is tire rotation, rebalence, and oil change, then why is it normally $145 at my dealer and $175 when I priced getting the maintenance done at evergreen? I was under the impression that they change some fluids or something. Or is my dealership cutting corners?

Look at a maintenance schedule. They are available at your dealership. They list all of the services that they perform. The 15,000 mile service does not include any major fluid changes except the oil. They rotate tires, change the air filter, and do an inspection of some stuff. Pretty simple stuff.

I dont plan on paying for a specific 15,000 miles service. I rotate my tires by swapping them out twice a year. I have an intake, so I dont need a new filter. Basically all i need is an oil change.

You dont need to truely do anything major till your 30,000 miles service. that's the one that they change the fluids in your differentials. If your activly involved in your own maintenance then you should know where you are at with this stuff anyway.

Ok, good. So then its essentially an overpriced checkup? I was getting confused because I have a printed copy of the dealer's maintenance schedule. It says

15,000 mi Services:

Lubrication

Oil Change

Rotate & Balance

Check all Fluids

Coolant All Fluids

Fuel System

Inspections:

Front Brakes

Rear Brakes

Alignment (Visual)

Exhaust System

Steering System

Drive Axles

Air Filter

That is Verbatim, what the printout reads for 15,000 mi maintenance. I guess I will just get an oil change at the dealer, then put on my snows and call it good. Looks to me like they try to make it sound like they do more than the 7,500 mile maintenance but the only real difference is the tire balancing. Man they must make a killing on service being that they can charge all outdoors and do next to nothing. No insult to dealership employees. My only fear was if I didn't pay for the 15K Maintenance that it might void my warranty. I can easily do all this stuff my self.

Check your warranty & maintenance booklet. You are only required to have what is shown done in order to be in compliance. Just be aware turbo engines should have oil changed every 3750 miles.

Oh I am aware of the manual requirements, I had that open while I was trying to figure out what I needed to do. I also change my oil about every 2900 miles. Just FYI I talked with the dealer, they honored my free oil change and did not need to touch the wheels because they are comming off today. I got the inspection oil/lube/filter change for free:wh:, no need for anything else. BTW, why do they mention lube? Do they actually grease the ball joints or something? I have heard that claimed, but never seen it done durring an oil change.

Right, the ball joints and crap are sealed, no need for lube. But the sway bar bushings, hinges, and latches can be lubed if you request it. Its included but many customers dont like to have it done because the spray lube drools down sometimes and gets on the paint so many places dont do it unless the customer asks. Honestly those items only need to be done once a year unless you have urathane bushings.

Great, thanks guys. I will remember to ask to have those Items "lubed" when I bring it in next. Sounds pretty much like what I use to do with my old car, I used Marvel Mystery Oil on all moving parts, like swaybar bushings, door hinges, trunk and hood latches, gas cap latch and also on things like the throttle linkage and shifter linkages.
