Its pretty common to swap an EJ22 into a car with an EJ25 because of the EJ25's head gasket issues, so I'm sure that it wouldn't be too bad at all to put an EJ25 into a car with an EJ22
yea full long block swap but iu might pull it apart and put pistions, rings and head gaskets in it.. and i am doing all the labor my self.. any mods to the wiring or sensors or swap of sensors
Your profile says you have a 97 impreza, so as long as you're swapping in a DOHC 2.5 it should just work wiring-wise. The 2.2 and 2.5 computers are interchangeable too.
Forgot that part. You'll need a dual port header. The 2.5 has 2 ports on each head as opposed to one. I'm pretty sure the header will bolt right up to the rest of your exhaust... Someone will know for certain
When I put the 2.5 into my OBS I switched just the header and it bolted right up. These were both the newer engines but I believe they are mostly the same.
Is there any real power gains out of that? Is there a problem with the 2.2? to me it seems like it wouldnt be worth it unless you were going to less mileage and cheap. I know my 2.5 outback has margninal power and at 5-6krpm the knock just sounds teeeerrrrrriiiibbbblle
There is a fair amount of torque that can be felt from the 2.5 compared to the 2.2, but the downside is that the 2.5 is plagued with head gasket issues and the 2.2 as a rule, is not. The 2.2 is a much more reliable motor, and 9 times out of 10 will last longer than the 2.5.
Anything I've ever read/heard says bolt in plug in no mods but the exhaust manifold. Go on ebay spend 130$ for a UEL header get some nice rumble . As for engine internals cheapest I've seen is subarugenuineparts.com bout 60$ a piston head and iirc ring set is 200$ somewhere in that range. Also if your doing the swap spend the 300$ to do the t-belt water pump, head gaskets ect. Knowing they're notorious for blowing HG's its well worth the peace of mind.
