2.2L Legacy wont re-start once hot.

So a co worker of mine recently bought a 96 Legacy wagon that's having some problems

First its having issues restarting once the car is hot. The car starts and runs reliably once running (from a cold start). He just cant shut it off and then restart it once its come up to temperature.

Secondly, he says it also has a code related to the catylitic converters (he wasnt specific). Is this typical? how do you go about fixing this?

Thoughts? I was hoping to help him get it back working.

How long does it have to cool off before it starts again?

I bet the code is p0420. Reset it, and see if it comes back. Could be related to the starting issue.

Im guessing how ever long it takes to cool down while sitting outside. 30-40 mins at least?

I can have him unhook the battery and clear the code and see if it remedies anything. Im guessing at least the code will be back.
