lock car with either power locks or keypad. then try to unlock and open the drivers door with the key. mine, the alarm goes off. kind of stupid for down the road when the keyless entry sh!ts the bed and you need to open the door with the key everytime.

so 2 questions

A: does everyone elses do this? (mike-d or inski, i know you 2 have them)

B: can i make it stop?

my 07 2.5i does this as well. Found out when I got new tires and I locked the car and gave them the key and the mechanic freaked out when he unlocked it and set the alarm off, was funny though

any ideas to make it not tweak when i unlock it with the key? other than taking the door apart and finding the sensor and ripping it out

It doesn't make too much sense to me...

I have been told by Charlies that you need the beeper thing to straight-up get into and drive the car (not true). I know that if you try to open the locked car with a copied key, the alarm goes off and the car will not start unless you shut off the alarm with the beeper. The whole thing doesn't make sense to me. Basically if you want to have a spare made that will work, you need another beeper and that spare key needs to be bought from Subaru which I think runs a bill somewhere around $120. Pretty annoying.

yeah it's built into the alarm system to prevent people from picking the lock. How about just using the key fob (isn't that the technical term?) to lock and unlock the doors???

i locked my key fob in the car, used spare key from my wallet. but my thought is, down the road when the fob ****s the bed, people generally give up on the idea of keyless entry and use the key to open the door. and if i do that i'll set off my alarm every time

You can disable the alarm system, but I'm pretty sure that's the only way. Easy to do, at least on the Bee. Open the drivers side door and with the car completely unlocked, hold down the unlock button on the fob for a few seconds. In my car, the security light flashes differently when it's disarmed. To reengage it, do the same thing.

EDIT: Looks like it's different. Try this!

Disarm the alarm system so it doesn't work

1. Sit in the driver's seat and shut all doors and rear gate.

2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

3. Hold down the UNLOCK side of the driver's power door locking switch on the door and Open the driver's door within the following 1 second!

5. Wait 10 seconds without releasing the switch (holding the lock button).

The setting will then be changed as follows, as indicated in the odometer/trip meter display:

If the system was previously activated: The odometer/trip meter screen displays 'AL oF' and the horn sounds twice, indicating that the system is now deactivated.

If the system was previously deactivated The odometer/trip meter screen displays 'AL on' and the horn sounds once, indicating that the system is now activated.

Or try this:

Disarm the system: push unlock for 2 seconds

There are different ways for the different models, you should be able to find what you're looking for on that site.

Also, if you did lose your fob or something, putting the key in the ignition shuts the alarm off I think, so not a big deal.

sweet i'll have to try that
Um, hello guys, there's this quaint paper thing in your glovebox....s'called a "Owner's Manual."

There are several pages in there showing how to program/change security settings.

Heh, you think it's hard to do on a Scoob, try doing it on a Camry.

There are like 25 different options on my dad's 05.

or else!

While waiting for my wife to get out of work one day (she was performing surgery...literally) I read my entire owner's manual.

From what I've seen, the alarm goes off on the '99 OBW, '05 OBW, and '08 OBW when the key is used.

most of the time if the key is inserted into the ignition and turned to on the alarm will shut off. keep in mind also this probly only works on cars with chipped keys. Another thing to keep in mind is that the car will only arm the alarm if the drivers door lock button is hit while the door is open and then closed (if you dont have keyless). i run into a lot of these problems when installing remote starters, there are ways to disable the alarm too as others have pointed out but that only works on the newest cars to my knowledge.

In the cars with or without chipped keys you can disarm the alarm by turning the key on (to run) and off 5 times. Then the alarm will stop.
