2 blown struts a bent control arm and bad ball joints...

So about 1 week ago I hit a massive pot hole at night driving home around back bay. It was unavoidable and I ended up blowing 2 struts ($275) (oil everywhere) bent a front radious arm ($175) a sway bar endlink ($40) and a front lower ball joint which I need the entire arm for since they are part of it and we are talking the entire front arm THE BIG ONE ($$$$ I cant even find one forsale). Now I did nothing about it because I wanted new sturts anyways and upgraded to Tokico D-specs after this. Now I am finding out that I need to spend over $1k-$1.5K just in parts. Is the town responsible for not fixing or marking this or am I just SOL? It was not a bump, it was not a crack. It was a large 2 front wheels in it bottom of my car hit. The pot hole is gone now it was filled in a few days later. Is Portland responsible for it? Can I claim in on my insurance (my deductable is only $250)? Any Ideas?

because it's a pothole, you could try the town and see how responsive they are. insurance should also cover it if the town doesn't, but you need to call them asap...

GO TAKE PICTURES BEFORE YOU CALL THEM!!!

It might be gone before you know it

Sounds like it already is gone. I'd say you're SOL Pat. If the pothole was still there, you'd have a slim chance if you put up a really good fight. Without the pothole, you're not going to get anything out of Portland.

Call the insurance company. Just be aware, if it was an immobile object it will be your collision not your comprehensive that covers it. Which means your rates will go up. If it was a Deer or something kicked up my another vehicle then it would be considered unavoidable regardless of speed and that is comprehensive which does not send your rates up. This is how it always worked for me.

the "pothole law" says if they were made aware of it, as in somebody called to complain, they have 24 hours to take action for any defect in the road, after 24 hours, they are responsible for any and all damages caused by said defect. If they knew it was there they should pay

don't ask how I know this

So what do you do when they say "Oh Im sorry to hear that, we didn't know, we will fix that pothole right away"? Even if they knew they can always claim they didn't and unless you know someone in the town office that can prove otherwise then this law is useless.

I have decided to eat it since I already spend the money on my tokico d-specs and I got the endlink for free from a friend... I also am going to try to use a 300zx turbo lower ball joint rebuild kit as it seems to be the same or similar. (i can get it for $15 or I can get a new 300zx one for $33) The silly thing in the g35 has a c clip holding the ballk joint in so it is removable just no one sells the part (except moonface racing and it is $539 just for the ball joint... it is adjustable and drops the shock arm up to an inch or so) I also found an steering knuckle arm and joint for $350 from a friend who works at a dealer ship... its crazy the labor price is insaine(good thing I have a friend who owes me) since it requires removing the entire front suspension and there are 3 lower arms, the steering arm, the sway bar and strut must come off along with the upper control arm wishbone.

Pat, quit running 18s, if you ran 16s you could at least sometimes smack stuff without major carnage.

lol stock wheels are 18's... I have had it slammed for 2 years and it finally broke something lol. Just sucks because I have had to drop 3k in repairs this summer (I wanted to actually buy some nice stuff for it and now all I am doing is fixing it).

recent things that I fixed

new springs

new tokico d-specs

new exhaust (ripped old one off)

front bumper repainted for THE LAST TIME ( finally going to be nice)

front lip (not going on car ever because I will lose it)

rear bushings

rear camber arms

all belts

coolant hoses

new light ballasts

new headlights

-things that still need attention-

lost undertray

broken seat frame

broken window motor

broken door locks

sunroof motor fail

3rd set of headlights due to leaks

ballasts keep failing

bulbs keep failing

rear bumper paint cracked (someone backed into me the other day and drove off... didnt notice till yesterday).

etc etc etc... SUCKS

I am going to store it for the winter and only drive it on nice days (might leave it in florida if I can get it fixed soon).

Wow, sounds like the syndrome I had with my old Pontiac. Never mod a cheap american car BTW, you will keep having problems after the car gains 10hp over stock lol. That damn thing is on its 3 transmission, 2nd engine and soon to be on its 3rd suspension system. POS. Spent more time in the shop than being driven! I litterally replaced everything except the brake master cylinder, fuel tank, body and 2 rims. Everything else was replaced at one point or another in the past 6 years.
