oooooooo.... "sport shift" AT on the GT... :icon_scratch:

Pics or it's fake. :happy3:

I keeeed, I keeeed.

sounds like they just took the wrx made it the gt and made a baby sti and called it a wrx.

sounds like a good enough plan to me. that pretty much beats out the mitsu again. even if they make the ralliart.

see now that car looks ok to me. why the hell didn't they just make them look like that from the begining??

Impreza GT sedan vs. WRX sedan

I think this is the smartest move Subaru has made with the Impreza since the WRX was released in the US. The WRX looks far more aggressive now, with more performance to back it up. And while the GT isn't my thing, it's safe to say it'll be popular with the "I want performance but not 'here I am officer' styling" crowd. You know, old people.

The Ralliart is THE exact reason this happened.

Until now, the WRX has had no direct competition (I don't call anything FWD competition). With the Lancer, you either got all or nothing, there was no middle ground in models like the WRX was. Now that Mitsu has a direct competitor, Subaru needed to widen the gap around them further.

I've been on the fence about the new WRX since day one, but with these changes, I'd buy an '09 WRB Rex in a second if I could.

I will say though, I wish there was 2 things they would change on the Impreza line. First, add a gold wheel option to the WRX like the STi. The gunmetal wheels look great on the black/grey/silver and red cars, but do nothing for me on WRB or white. Second, a modern day Gravel Express, an OBS with the IGT engine.

it makes total sense to differentiate the 5MT WRX from the autobox ones, hence the IGT. The character of the cars themselves now matches the character of the owners

5MT -- row the gears your own self, performance uber alles (just not quite to STI levels)

IGT -- all-around competence. IGTs will come standard with FHI's excellent stability control, which will really save your bacon when the car gets crossed up...and IS defeatable for those with the proper skills who perfer to tell their own cars what they want them to do

I entirely agree....

Oh and on the note the this beats the ralliart..

The Ralliart as mechanical front and rear diffs and an active center, the WRX only has a viscous center diff.. that is for the MASSIVE loss for suby, I was really hoping the would add some diffs to the WRX.

But, at least Subaru is doing SOMETHING. I'm interested to see the price point of this..

It is encouraging that there could be an arms race between mitsu and suby... to the benefit of all of us.

Deffinitly an upgrade but i still have to give the "looks" award to the mitsu. Call me crazy......

I am however happy subaru is doing something.

I still think the basic sedan (IGT) looks like a pathetic econo-box, even with the hood scoop. The WRX doesn't look to bad but it's still not great. I think the styling cues on the wagons are much better.

But then I'm a wagon fan myself.

Should we thank subaru for these improvements to the WRX,

or should we thank mitsubishi for creating the need for subaru to step up their offerings?

What this does is make it so you don't have to go out and buy all the Subaru Accessory body panels (grill, wing, etc) to "sportify" your 08 WRX.

This also gives the kiddies something sporty to buy because they priced the kiddies out of the market with the new $40k STi. I'm going to guess that the new 09 WRX is going to roll in at old STi pricing... low 30's on the sticker.

i'll take an 09 WRX 5 door please.

that "body kit" was available on '08 as an option. If people bothered to look at the cars in person they woulda seen that. Anyone seen WRXnates car? He's got that same kit and his car is sweet as hell.

Someone somewhere said "it's the first year. they'll make it better next year. If they come out with the best one the first year of the redesign, they can't up-grade"

Who was that???
