22t, not firing

Okay ... story is:

I dumped two bottles of heet into the tank, as suggested. I didn't end up getting more gas to put in yet. Started car, moved to garage. Swapped MAF sensor and then decided to move car to other garage bay. Started it up, moved it. We then decided to swap the throttle body/TPS, as I was getting a TPS CEL. This involved taking off the TMIC, and swapping throttle bodies. I was GOING to replace the knock sensor, then realized the wire had pulled out of the connector, so I just reattached connector to the wire and went with that. I was going to swap brake master cylinder, then realized the one I borrowed from Meyagi was different and only had 3 lines coming out of it where my car has 4. After getting the intercooler back on, the car would not start. Upon further inspection, there is no spark. I tried swapping the ignitor out from my brother's legacy (same part number) and still nothing.

I don't think anything we specifically changed would cause it not to start, but just for giggles, we plugged the old stuff in, and still nothing. I pulled the codes again and I noticed a new one for injector #4 which I don't THINK I've seen before (but no more knock sensor code!) I don't think that would cause no spark tho ...

The only thing I can think (because the intercooler is a tight fit, where it doesn't actually belong in the car) is maybe I crushed/cut a wire on the main harness which is causing it. I didn't have time to check, so that's next weekend ... but I was hoping to maybe get some other possibilities to check for when I get back to it.

Anyone?

oooh spin, feel your pain

given the amount of custom work you've been up to, you are 100% on your own to troubleshoot plobrems. not trying to minimize the issues, it's just that it could be all sorts of things, maybe 2 or more, almost certainly not obvious. If the prob was obvious, you'd a found it by now (he said hopefully)

try to isolate one system at a time to see what's working, what's not.

I'd bet the new TB/TPS is yer potential culprit, are you 100% sure it's exactly the same as what come off

and yes, it's easy to damage stuff in engine compartment when wrassling new partZ in and out, esp if it 'almost' fits! (whacking own head with rubba mallet smiley goes here) BTDT

Well I guess my next question would be ... would a TPS/TB cause the car to not fire? I tried plugging the old one in (not hooked up) to see if that did anything, but it still didn't start. I believe I checked part numbers, but I don't remember. It's not off of the same motor, but having the old one plugged in should have caused it to spark if that were the problem, I would think. The only code I saw that I thought might cause it not to spark was the cam angle sensor. I had this code before, though and it would fire fine. I'm going to check that sensor next weekend, as well as all the other sensors that I have codes for. I was given all the specs that I should get with a voltmeter so I'll plug through those.

Do diodes typically stop working on such short notice (3 years)? I had to wire in a diode when I did the wiring and when I first did it I accidentally connected the wrong two wires together and I had no spark and no fuel pump action. I'll have to listen for fuel pump next time to see if I hear any.

if it ran before the tps swap and rewiring that wire... put other tps on and detach wire... If this fixes it, the car will run.

CAS will cause it not to fire.

So is it no spark or no fuel ?

I tried this, but maybe not at the same time. I'll have to try it again I guess. No spark.

With a cam angle sensor problem you car will still run it will just retard to the timing so you my have some perfomance issues.

Okay, I thought so because I had that code before but it still started. Hrmmmmmmmmmppphhh.

Yup try to see if your fuel pump is priming. Just turn the key to on and you should hear it. Did you gound something? Uhm what else. I am not sure. What about the MAF or MAP not sure what your car has. Did you happen to unplug it with the battery hooked up?

Try this. Unplug the battery from the car. Leave it off for like 5 to 10 mins. Then plug her back up. I know it sound crazy but if you tripped up your ECU then maybe this will reset it. I have seen MAF and MAP's go crazy and brake if you don't unplug your battery first.

I am not promising to fix your car here just hope I can give you some good ideas to look into.

Tps of maf have no effect on spark. Try swapping the coil pack, I've seen those take a dump, or the crank sensor is another common issue.

Alright, I'll try snagging the one off my brothers car to see if that's the problem. Thanks man and thanks again for letting me try out those parts. Hopefully I can figure it out this weekend so I can either get them back to you soon, or give you an offer for them

Okay, so an update. Apparently we forgot to put the intercooler clamp on and so we completely opened the clamp to get it around the TB. When my buddy did this, two wires got caught in there and one of them got severed when it was tightened up. It ended up being the cam position sensor wire and that's why there was no spark. It's fixed and seems to be running much better now that I've added some nice 93 octane ethanol free from Twitchell's, some heet, and some octane booster to the ****ty gas that was in there. Mikey, I'm going to pull my codes this weekend to see if your parts cleared any of them up. I will either deliver money or parts to you soon, depending on what the dealio is. Thanks a lot for letting me grab those from you!

wow, all that over two stupid wires. Funny, my wifes cam position sensor is throwing codes so I just bought one at Napa. $65 with my uncles Crookers discount.

Then, I started reading online back in 2007 Nissan came out with a recall for the 02-03 V6 Altimas for this problem. I guess they had some solder joint problems on the cam sensor.

Ohh well atleast I dont have to worry about going to a dealership and being carless.
