NEWS:

COBB Tuning is seeking candidates to participate in a Launch Control and Flat Foot Shift beta test for all manual transmission turbo Subaru models supported by the AccessPORT.

Launch Control allows the user to set the RPM the ECU will hold the engine at while the clutch is depressed and the throttle is held wide open. This will build some boost pressure, providing more power at launch and make it easier for the driver to manage a performance launch.

Flat Foot Shift allows the user to set the RPM the ECU will hold between upshifts while the clutch is depressed and the throttle is held wide open. This allows the driver to hold the throttle pedal to the floor between shifts and maintain partial boost during upshifting events.

This beta test applies to the following vehicles:

2004-2007 STI: AP-SUB-002 > LC & FFS

2008-2010 STI: AP-SUB-003 > LC & FFS

2002-2005 WRX: AP-SUB-001 > LC Only

2006-2007 WRX: AP-SUB-002 > LC & FFS

2008-2009 WRX: AP-SUB-003 > LC & FFS

2004-2006 Forester XT: AP-SUB-002 > LC & FFS

2007-2009 Forester XT: AP-SUB-003 > LC & FFS

2005-2006 Legacy GT: AP-SUB-002 > LC & FFS

2007-2009 Legacy GT: AP-SUB-003 > LC & FFS

2005-2006 Outback XT: AP-SUB-002 > LC & FFS

2007-2009 Outback XT: AP-SUB-003 > LC & FFS

Interested candidates should send an email to [email protected] with Subaru LC and FFS Beta Candidate as the email subject the following information information contained in the email message:

Full Name:

Address:

Are You Able to Visit the SLC, Plano or Portland Facility?: (Y/N) (COBB Tuning would like to test some additional vehicles first hand)

Vehicle Model Year:

Vehicle Model:

Transmission Type:

Current AccessPORT Map on ECU:

List of Power Modifications:

COBB Tuning will be selecting candidates to ensure adequate testing coverage across vehicle models and model years. Not all candidates will become beta testers, otherwise the beta test will become too large to be effectively managed. Candidates selected for beta testing will be notified via email and informed about the next steps in the beta testing program.

Once beta testing is complete, the LC and FFS features will be rolled out to the entire AccessPORT user community in an official firmware upgrade.

We are looking forward to bringing these features to Subaru tuning enthusiasts! Thank you for your continued support!

Its a feature that hasn't yet been enabled on the AP- Until now( in the works). Launch control is a tool to help aid a consistant launch, given a launch done appropriately. If you think launch control is about holding it WOT and dumping the clutch- you should stay away from it. It simply takes one variable you don't have to concentrate on out of the way.

I think COBB has a print error as well, I believe they mean to say the flat foot shifting will hold RPM on downshifts, rather than upshifts. The idea of FFS is so again the driver has one less variable to have to concentrate on- in this case 'heel and toe'. Theres never a problem maintaining RPM on upshifts- the upper limit has already been aquirred and shifting up to the next gear should land you right back in your usable RPM/HP/TQ range.

My LGT already has launch control and flat-foot shifting via my AP. How is this going to work on downshifting?

Yes your AP has this feature but its not enabled- try using it and you will see. COBB is enabling this feature which is huge for those in Motorsports.
To understand the dynamics of FFS (flat foot shifting) you'll have to Wiki it to best understand it. Try to Wiki 'Heel and toe' as well but, basically when you downshift- your braking (performance scenario not cruising). If you completely remove your foot from the throtle while braking/clutching in, then your RPMs drop significantly which causes 2 problems
1- Your going to clutch out in a low RPM range for the gear causing excessive stress to your drivetrain (should be at like 4000RPM not 1200)
2- Your going to upset the vehicle dynamics (jerky- could throw you into an Understeer/Oversteer situation mid corner)

Heel and toe
rids this problem- Basically as your braking in, you roll your foot over and tap the throttle to keep the RPMs up as you shift and 'clutch-out/throttle-in', this keeps the RPMs up- smooth shift, no upset to vehicle dynamics, and its the fastest way through the corner.
FFS
This feature rids you of all this fancy footwork. Basically the AP map would blip the throttle for you as you brake/clutch-in/downshift. So as you clutch-out/throttle-in, you would be right where you need to be RPM wise.

Yes it is enabled, I use it frequently. If you try to set it through the AP it will not work. Use the instructions from the Cobb website. I always heel-toe while braking. Ok, just read the rest of your post. I wasn't thinking of the AP blipping the throttle for you on downshift. That would be sweet.
