Aftermarket Exhaust - Warranty

Hey,

I have a bone stock 07 2.5i and I am interested in a new exhaust....or maybe just a new muffler. I would like a little more of an exhaust not. Anyway, I am just considering it, but, is there any way to do this without voiding the manufacturer warranty?

-Thanks

In short yes. Any exhaust will be fine. Subaru cant void a warranty on the car. They can however, if proven that the exhaust provided a problem not fix it under warranty. There is some law about this, however I cant remember the name of it right now.

Alright thanks....does anyone have a recommendation for a good exhaust that is inexpensive and won't hurt the car in any way? And raysRS, I traded my 09 for the 07 this past weekend in NH. I loved my 09 but it was an auto and I had wanted a standard shift so that's why I made the move. I LOVE the 07 now!!

-Thanks

whoa, whoa whoa! Short answer is NOT NOT NOT a simple "yes any exhaust will do."

Warranty coverage of late model cars with aftermarket mods is HIGHLY dealer dependent. You have to realize you're on a slippy slope when you start modding a late model Scoob still under warranty.

A conservative approach would be to use factory approved exhaust like the SPT, which sounds great and gives you a lil bump on the hp side. But fair warning: even with this, some dealers have been known to not cover warranty issues due to this mod.

This whole subject is a major beehive to kick, search this forum and others like nasioc.com and you will find many many horror stories...as well as some appreciative nods to dealers who were accommodating in warranty issues on modded cars. I have several horror stories of my own, but won't get into them here. I also have some good stories, same thing.

Why, is Keith from Wilton? I have only seen 2 or 3 late model scoobs around F-Town/Wilton area and only 1 is a WRX.

Speaking of Which Ray, do you know who owns the black 08/09 hatchback with the monster energy drink logo on the gas door??? I think its a 2.5RS.

Very funny, no it was around F-Town all summer, usually parked at the Dugout sometime between 5pm and 11pm. Looks like my car but with monster stickers, chrome crap, tiny wheels and no scoop. Sorry Kieth, didn't mean to Hijack the thread.

^evergreen never gave me any crap about the different exhausts i built. and just a muffler is a cheap option i've run : prodrive axleback (too damn expensive) flowmaster super44 ( too loud and raspy) and i've had a dynomax ultraflo for 2 years. ultra flo can be had for $80 on ebay, hire a welder and put on a sexy tip and she'll sound purrdy

Alright cool, now that Dynomax your talking about, is that made for a Subaru or is it kind of a universal thing? Does it need to be welded or can it bolt on?

-Thanks

my buddy got a pretty good deal on a Grimmspeed for his hawkeye that sounds pretty good but i'd recommend the SPT for both warranty and getting an inspection.
