another vacation for obama

RELIGION AND POLITICS.

Boy howdy two things you shouldn't discuss with people you want to remain friends with..... and I hate it when it comes up on this site because I like everyone on here, but damn you caught me on a bad night.

I'll humor you and hit both your vague gripes.

1. Obama taking a vacation? Lets take a look at some info on our boy GWB...

Factcheck.org has some info on vacations on recent presidents...

Q: Has President Obama taken more vacation time than his predecessors?

A:According to one count, Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush spent more time on "vacation" during their first year than President Obama did. Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton spent less time on "vacation."
Full link to the article WITH SOURCES can be found here: http://www.factcheck.org/2010/01/president-obamas-vacation-days/
If that isn't enough, here's a vague ask yahoo page. http://ask.yahoo.com/20031001.html

In his first year and a half as President, George W. Bush vacationed 96 days. Over that same time period, President Obama has taken 36 days.

I'm too lazy to google more articles, but needless to say, the "whaaaa Obama is taking some time off" is pretty retarded. The guy has to clean up everyone's damn mess, he deserves some time to chillax.

2. As for the "mosque" in NYC, I'll let my boy Keith Olbermann destroy you. Give this a watch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZpT2Muxoo0

He uses some big words.. and you have to pay attention for a whole TWELEVE minutes. I'm sure if it were Glenn Beck you'd be hanging on every word, but try and focus hard, as he throws down some actual fact... The whole "mosque" outcry is absolutely ridiculous.

I look forward to cut and paste Fox News talking points and smacking around thinly veiled bigotry.

Great clip. I'm enlightened. It amazes me how stories get twisted in a way to piss unsuspecting Americans off.

I could be all professional and close the thread as we don't discuss religion, however being flexible as I am

I will let it go until it gets out of hand. Deal?

All I have to say is he has been elected for 4 years. At that time if we as a nation are not happy with him we will elect a new president.

To be FAIR & BALANCED one should watch all the different point of views on TV and make a choice on who has the facts on the info that really matters via actual vidieo and sound recordings that come from our politicians and not personal slams. Do you want Big Government or Small government, that`s the 2 sides we have to choose from - Constitutional Freedom or a European style Socialist Government. We are all Americans here and have a right to disagree with whoever is in power at the time, Atleast at the moment we have the right. GOD BLESS AMERICA !

Apparently he was right in front of my Uncle's store in Seattle. He also heard to thumps on his roof, which he was completely baffled about until he heard that two F15s or similar were dispatched from Oregon to force a small pontoon-plane to land.

And that's as close to politics as I'll discuss, for now.

lolz...lmk when he does something worth that vacation... did u really compare his vacations to gbw ? lolz gwb wasn't his time all vacation?

But we were no where near as bad off as we are with this clown, try as you might it will do no good we are worse off now by far. Thanks for playing dismissed.

Yeah, because GWB throwing us into war in two countries was financially viable. thank you try again.
and gwb is not in office... if you want to compare to GWB you are really setting the standards pretty low. The Bush isn't really an a way to back up the All Mighty Bama.

Point is he hasn't done much... I thought he was gonna come thru and prove all of us who didn't vote for him wrong... Instead he proved us right.

**** I think Jay Z coulda' done a better job so far.

If you want to say GWB who do you think would have found a way to bottle all of the oil??? lolz... he does know his oil!

I thought this thread was about vacation, mosques, and hype machine falsehoods? Gee golly wizz.

First of all:

The economy being down the drain and me firing back about GWB was a miss step on my part. I was wrong. Bringing GWB up is past oriented when we should be pushing forward for the future. I was frumpy last night and didn't do any research to back up my claims. I shouldn't comment precisely on the economy because I haven't taken the time to really delve into the facts vs the manufactured narrative.

So is the topic now presidential approval rating? The economic spending? The wars? Presidential responsibility? Mosques? Vacations? Perceived vs actual effectiveness?

I'll just ramble on like I always do I guess.

Fact: What Obama has (or hasn't) done

Obama has been an ineffective president who set the bar way to high (it is currently orbiting Jupiter) and hasn't really done anything meaningful, we all know that. Dealing with a terrible economy, two wars, big oil spill, health-care, etc; along with trying to wrangle congress to actually do something has been quite the challenge.

His inability to wrangle congress has been a huge blow to him doing anything actually meaningful. So many important things were shot down or stalled thanks to the polarized political parties. Both sides are to blame. The people in power have been too divided to get anything done.

Is it all Obama's fault? It depends how you look at it. You could say it's not his fault and that the atmosphere is too divided to actually pass anything to make progress. You could say he's an ineffective leader and a better one could get things done. To me, that's more of an opinion thing. Others will argue it as a factual thing. What we do know is that bi-partisanship has failed, it is failing us and our country. Democracy works when you compromise, and when you can't compromise, well.....

I could spend paragraphs demonizing both sides and pointing fingers (with facts mind you), but that doesn't solve anything or bring progress. It would help identify the actual problems, but people are so stubborn in their own political mindset, I honestly don't think it would be worth anyone's time nor would anyone care.

Fiction: The inability to control your own narrative

Obama has also been completely unable to control the narrative of his presidency. The media is writing the story, not him.

When you have a megaphone calling you a monster / animal / criminal 24 hours a day all of your efforts to turn that country around, let alone even run, it would be hard for any of the great past presidents.

The original poster of this thread dropped two sentences that were just media talking points that have no validity. But they do stem from something, frustration with the current political atmosphere. I think people have a right to be angry, both parties of their government have failed them, and the one man who could help is viewed as and made out to be (whether you actually believe it or not) just sitting on his hands and watching.

Pretty much everyone on the political spectrum has a reason to be mad at Obama. Whether those concerns are valid or not is another argument, and not what this thread was started for.

Closing thoughts.

Has Obama done a lot to help this country? Not really. Is it all 100% his fault? I don't think so. The victories he has been able to win have fallen mostly into the "meh" bucket. Is he the social facist nazi muslim anti-christ who is going to kill your grandmother while spending his entire presidency on vacation praying towards mecca and ordering states to tear down churches to put up mosques while selling hard drugs to your kids? Hell no. I'm not stupid enough to think that, and I hope most of you aren't either.

I'm not an economist or a political analyst or an expert on anything. If we want to discuss actual issues, I'll probably keep quite as I feel I am not informed enough to make bold claims. I just don't like people trumpeting media talking points that are clear falsehoods as facts.

If you want to be spoon fed your opinions from your favorite faces in the media, then go for it. I'm not trying to change anyone's mind or sway your political beliefs, just trying to cut through the lies (using facts, not fiction) the media has been churning out.

Best post in this thread was RedForester08's... If you don't like him, elect someone else when the time comes.

Can we just go back to talking about Subaru's and posting funny car and cat pictures? This writing big long paragraphs stuff is no fun. I'm done posting in this thread.

I have been around a loooong time and have been pretty much a centrist when it comes to politics. I didn`t even have a problem with Clinton until he dropped his pants in the oval office. I don`t care what party you are from, when you do that you are a SCUM BAG. The problem we are having now is that Obama has moved the countries policies too far to the left too fast. This has woken up the sleeping right ready to do battle. If we had a far right president in power I am sure the left would be *****in now also. This is America and we have a very wide divesrity of opinions in our counrty. Anytime the pendulum swings too far left or right we will not get bi-partisanship. A successful president needs to govern from the middle. This will piss off the far left and far right but will make the vast majority of us in the middle reasonably satisfied. I prefer Small Government and some of you prefer Big Government, hopfully we can meet in the middle.
