Anybody that understands engine tuning dynamics, has a laptop, an OBD II cable, a tuning prog, and A/F logging capabilities, can street tune a car.
Dynos are useful, but not essential.
In Germany dynos are almost non-existent, it's all street-tuning, Autobahn Style.
A tune for real life driving should always be finessed on the street.
If a tuner only "tunes" your car via a dyno, with no street dial-in, you're bound to have a car that had flaws in its' map.
I paid for extra STREET tuning (tweaking) time at ESP, and as a result, I've found only minimal glitches.
Compare that to DSG's dyno-only, (multiple) Epic Fail, Totally Wortless $500 "tunes".
(Fwiw, DSG gave me 335WHP dyno sheets, the car THEN dyno'd a pathetic (oem-grade) 225whp (baseline) <and damn sure NOT 335whp!!) at ESP a few months later.
"Interesting".... ya THINK?? : pissed :
... How DSG "found" 335whp in that beat-ass 225whp "tune" is BEYOND my ability to comprehend....
IF indeed that was even, actually, my car's 335whp reading in the first place.
As assed as it ran, I have my doubts.
Needless to say, I won't be going back, as I value ethics, and my hard-earned money.
I'm sick of sketchy BS in the tuning biz, and when I see (and if I have to) live it, I plan to CALL IT, plain as day. Be forewarned.
