Anyone knowledgable on hybrid motor set ups?

There is a good possibility that I may go hybrid with an EJ257 short block with my existing 2.0 heads. Aside from the obvious things that I will need in order to do this, such as engine management and STi engine gasket kit, other things such as stock fuel injectors, fuel pump, turbo, water pump, and oil pump can all be used with the STi short block (probably should replace the oil and water pump)? At this point, I just need to get her back on the road, but if I can easily do a short block swap instead of repairing my old exsisting WRX short block, then that's what I want to do. Money is tight right now, but in the future if I have better finances, I will have a nice STi short block to work with

ANY info regarding hybrid set ups is appreciated!

I have been doing a lot of reading for you there Ryan. Sounds like everthing from your motor know will just drop into the sti block.

That being said. It is recommend you just go ahead and throw some bigger injectors in the block.

If you do go for the oil and water pump then get the sti's. The new 08+ oil pumps are 11 mm where the 04-07 is a 10mm. They are the same price and the 11mm drops right into the older motor so it is the prefereed pump know when doing builds.

Also, couple of guys over on Nasioc have done some write ups on this subject. This is where sometimes that site is actually good. LOL. There is a lot of good info there. You just get kicked in the virtual junk if you don't search for it first before posting up a forum about it.

Yeah I've been combing through NASIOC a lot on this. There has been mixed responses on whether or not to use the WRX cams with it, but some say it's perfectly fine since WRX and STi cams aren't much different. I guess picking up some $200 pinks or 07 STi injectors wouldn't hurt.

why pay 200 for stock pinks when u can get 650's for the same price ur gonna probably get tuned anyway>then ur fine on fuel!!!

^Dan I thought about yours. Even though it's a good deal, I'm not too keen on cutting my wiring harness again, and yes I said again. A couple of my injector connectors already got cut once from my carelessness when I pulled my intake manifold last time :.

The pinks are fine and will be more than enough to handle what you want with the car there Ryan. Plus they will just be a nice stright plug and play.

keep in mind that your compression ratio will drop and you'll need to counteract for that, usually with more boost. aside from that everything is basically the same, just get it tuned. if you want to turn up the boost to counter the CR, make sure your turbo and injectors can hold it.

wrx and sti cams are interchangeable, but you do need to plug the oil port on the sti cams. easy to do with a set screw. they do flow better than the wrx cams and its worthwhile to do if you have the heads apart, although remember that you'll need to also buy new shims because those cams will need to be remeasured and reshimmed. shimless sti buckets are about $15 each and will let you rev higher more reliably.

dont use cometic gaskets to fix the cr. they always blow.

Ditto on the Cometic head gaskets. I have read way to many people poping those things. Great on other cars but not so good on ours.

make sure you shave around the wrx mani to match the sti head gasket cause it doesn't exactly match, if you don't it will create hot spots. def do the injectors while you're in there, wish i had. my stock ones are close to capacity @ 16psi. i made 219hp and 264trq down at dsg. i swapped everything over from my 2.0 motor cause it all works and got a new front end pack and belts and water pump. should have deleted the tgv's too and a grimmspeed x over pipe.

I acutually mentioned the head gasket not matching up to Ryan so we checked it out. The head gasket didnt seem to overlap any at all when Ryan and I checked it. Wierd.
