It came with a ton of better body parts (fenders, hood, doors) but my main concern is all the rot under the doors and god knows what else under the car. But the plan is to try and fix most of the rust put a cage in it.

Seriously, where did you find that? Its pretty cool, but I feel like Im getting Tetnis just by looking at the photos.

PV544 Volvos have a long and illustrious race and rally history. Lots and lots of aftermarket go-fast bits available. done up right, they are indecently fast on track and rally roads alike.

check out irollmotors.com, they do lots of vintage racecar builds on classic Volvos

of course there's ipd out in oregon, the original supplier of Volvo performance parts in the US market.

there's a long-standing Maine-based old volvo place out in Leeds, the name escapes me at the moment, will try to dig up contact info

the PV cars are a strange combo of unit body construction and old body-on-frame construction. Def worthwhile to have an experienced Volvo rebuilder look at your car to see if it's savable in an affordable kind of way.

A.C. Wheeler in leeds. don't have his number but hes a really nice guy. used to get all my stuff from him when I was in the volvo game years ago...

Its sad because I know have no place to work on it and no tools to fix the body. Hence why I need to start my epic search for someone to take the challenge. This car has a rich racing history. At one time it used to be a hill climb car and my friend and I are going to bring it back for that purpose. Right now I am working on restoring the second engine that came with the car but I just might just sell it and put in a 289 Ford Mustang engine in. I know it would fit and has been done before, plus I have almost enough parts it.

Hopefully some day I will have some pictures like that for this car.

It's cars like that which got NASCAR started. Course, there might have been some Moonshine runnin' going on.

I've seen worse be fully restored....

It'll be cheaper if you DIY. Body work aint cheap to have it done right. And if you DIY you know what was done.

I'll "fix" it for you for 100 bucks *puts 5 dollars worth of bondo and spraypaint on*

looks like a lot of work and a lot of money....is there sentimental value with it or just something cool you want to build?

No sentimental value, it was free.... all I want to do is make it race worthy again. If anything it would cost a bit for someone to take car of the body, but parts are dirt cheep. The engine rebuild is only 500 bucks, new internals, all electrical, and a carb rebuild kit. So half the battle is won there.

realistically, the engine work is maybe one-third or 1/4 the battle.

Car has drum front brakes, which you will def want to upgrade for racing (or at least your Mom wants you to upgrade em)

You will have to rewire the car, no biggie except that will uncover all sorts of other gremlins.

new interior, or at least race seats plus roll cage and harnesses...figure a couple grand for that alone

tires, brake lines, steering gear, suspension...yikes it's a lot.

not to mention cubic $$$ to have a pro do the bodywork...and that's figuring the shell is solid enough to even conceive of rebuilding (note I did not say RESTORING which is a whole nother level of expenditure).

if you're not equipped to DIY the project, figure on several grand just to get you to the start line (do you have a haul truck and trailer available to really get you to the start line?)

not tryng to be a wet blanket, just realistic.

No I need realistic at this point. We have the truck and the trailer, tires are in abundance but rims are another story. The whole front suspension is going to be replaced anyways and disks are part of the plan and the rear is completely gone but we have everything for that. Its already wired for 12 volt so hopefully some of it can be saved if not I have enough wire and parts to do the job, has a more modern speedometer and oil gage in it. Some where inside the back of the car is a better interior.
