Back in Red!

I'm the new proud owner of this 95 Brilliant Red SVX L, AWD and ABS.

Has 80,0000 miles on it and picked it up for $500!

The owner had it at a garage because all the fuses blew while hes was driving. The garage replaced the fuses and started unplugging harnesses. It started back up after the ABS module was unplugged. Then it sat for a while...

It will drive and runs well, but I am going to start with replacing the ABS module, along with the heater controls, and alternator because they were fried.

Other than that it looks pretty good, especially mechanically. It does need new struts, but there is two brand new ones in the trunk (might do Koni insert mod). All bushings look good and no rust, but it does need some new seals and gaskets here and there.

The interior is pretty dirty and is missing the sun visors, but hopefully I can get it cleaned up good.

The outside is decent. Paint is dull and has a few door dings and bumper scuffs, but nothing crazy. The worst of it is a dent along the outer edge of the drivers side fender.

I believe I am the 3rd owner. I guess the original owner (want to say his name is Jim) was a mechanic at Chip's Subaru, and sold the car because he was diagnosed with cancer. That was a little over two years ago, so I'm not sure if he is still there.

Its going to be my DD and I'm getting rid of the escort (finally). I'm not going to get into a mod frenzy though. I already have one money pit sitting in my driveway haha. But I will get into doing stuff some day I'm sure.

Here's some crappy cell phone pics for now. Ill get some better ones after I get it home and cleaned up.

a decent SVX is def a keeper

some day they will be considered super classics

SVX flat 6 has similar power n torque to a 911 of similar vintage, so wow!

PS--amazing how many dash lights a bad alternator will cause, esp on a digital dash!

Thanks for the comments guys!

ive got a full 4.11 manual swap

Haha ya maybe someday.

OT but Joe have you made any progress on the car yet?
Yes actually. Need it done for winter so my land lord can plow easier. the harness is almost done, and apkarian100 came over the other day and helped me clean up the heads from having them sit. he might be back over tuesday night so we can put the heads on the block. ill have to grab the cam gear from you soon.

Just put in a new 110amp alternator and larger wire. Hopefully I can bring it home tomorrow. It stalls as soon as you put it in drive, and I didnt have enough time to look into it. I'm hoping it just needs to relearn idle...

So can't figure out why it keeps stalling out once I put it into drive... Reverse works fine though. I did rev it a bit and slide into drive to get it moving but once the rpms drop it just stalls out again. I have no idea what would cause this. Also, just like the old alternator the new one gets VERY hot. Anyone have any ideas?

So there was never an electrical short per say. It was the old alternator being bad that was the culprit. Mostly...

There was varistors (which are like mini surge protectors) that had fried in a few different things as well as the tcu. Apkarian100 soldered new ones in, and I replaced the alternator with a higher output one and did the "Big 3".

Problem I'm facing now is when you put it in drive it stalls out completely, it will go in reverse though...

I'm not sure what exactly would cause this. I did try using another tcu that I grabbed from a junk yard, but that didnt make a difference.

Anyone know what the cause of the stalling may be? Possible the Torque Converter??

Thanks,

Joe

Did you do the troubleshooting steps I gave you about unplugging the computer?

That's a wicked nice looking car. I wanna get one some day.

I wanted to update because i have the old girl up and running!

I had it towed down to Manchester about a week and a half ago. I bought a new battery and first thing i did was try and switch out the TCU. Which worked and now no problems when put in drive. Must have worked this time because before i had it running off jumper cables and there wasnt enough power to keep it running in drive.

I went and got it registered the other day and had it checked over. Its amazing how little rust there is under the car! So it needed all new pads and rotors and some of the calipers where seized up a bit. As well needing a new drivers side brake line, so i ordered up some SS lines which i should have later this week. Also need all 4 struts, but it came with 2 brand new ones in the trunk. Also have to figure out why the ABS light is on and the blinkers and brake lights aren't working.

Yesterday i did the pads and rotors and freed up the calipers, and will get the rear struts and hopefully the other things done so i can get it inspected asap!
