Back to Black VS. Heat Gun.

Chris

YARRR SUBY MONSTER!!
So I recently got in an argument about Back to Black vs. using a heat gun.

Back to Black is a Mothers detailing product that's designed to take old, sunbaked, whitened plastic back to black.

Heat Gun is part of my shade tree tool box. And it's a lot more useful... My theory with this is that it melts the top of the plastic back together, evens it out, and restores the original colour.

As most of you know, I'm a total shade tree mechanic. So the outcome of this thread is going to be obvious

My friend still claims I lost because I did the test on my 23 year old bumper. Apparently that's not fair because it's beyond redemption. Which is true, if you use back to black....

Here are the results. On the left, Back to Black. It couldn't do much. Middle is untouched, an the right is with the heat gun.

Heat gun wins hands down. No reason to use anything else.

Jeep guys been doin' it for a while on the faded trim.

Tell your friend I say congratulations on being wrong.

Yeah without a doubt the heat gun, or a torch held a little bit away from the plastic, will always work better. I have had great results with this as well!! Glad to se you finally did the test!

I need to do that on my moms cherokee, she tried armor all and complained her trim was still grey. Thanks!

When I worked in car detailing, on jeeps and the like that had this sun fading issue, we just used Tire Shine if I remember right.
