i had to pull on the bottom of the wheel with both hands and put my shoulder into the top of it to get it to tip that direction, then pull with both hands at the top and push with my foot at the bottom to get it to go the other way. it may not be as easy as just rocking it back and forth.
mine also didnt make any noise other than the rotor rubbing against the brake pad in corners, which sounded like me needing new brake pads.
lastly, when i replaced it i found it much more time effective to just buy the whole hub at norms subaru and get it shipped to me than to buy the bearing (more expensive than the whole used hub shipped) and have it pressed into the old hub. plus your old hub spindle might be toast if its been riding on that bad bearing for too long.
