Beater - '95 Legacy

I am looking at this legacy to fix up for a beater.

http://maine.craigslist.org/cto/1393131444.html

Went and looked at it today, it is in really good condition. No apparent rust and the interior is really clean. The motor is toast. Timing belt, position sensor and a bunch of other stuff is all melted. Most likely it was a stuck thermostat. It is an auto and I don't know what trim it is. It was a SOHC motor.

I know there has been some discussion about motor swaps, but I can't seem to find the threads which mention a good local source for an engine.

Does anybody know what motors I can swap in and where the best bet is to find one?

Buy it before i do.

Sounds like a real good deal. You should be able to find a motor somewhat easy. And that's the 2.2 which is an awesome motor!!

Clean it up and put new pulleys, timing belt and tensioner on. 95 2.2 - non-interference, maybe reseal it and machine the heads

Matt, the main problem with any swap for that car is OBD2. The 95s are pre-OBD, all 2.5s are OBD2. The sensors and stuff might not be compatible.

But buying a beater to soup up is defeating the purpose of buying a beater. Get it running as cheap as possible, put a glass pack on it, snow tires, and beat that bad dawg!

hezl yes!!!that's the best way the survive a maine winter!

I am not looking to swap in a WRX engine. I would be looking for a direct replacement. I think that the current one is too far gone for a quick and cheap fix. It could probably be done, but there are a good number of things that will need to be replaced and it will probably be a total rebuild. I was thinking that a swap would end up being quicker and easier.

nope, it dont fly like that

you can however buy my surplus used 2.2 parts that will most likely be enough to fix it
