well I changed the oil in the wagon today , took it for a quick ride up and down my road. smoke pouring out the exhaust , really sluggish not wanting to shift , smoke pooring out of the hood. got it back home , put it up on ramps , didnt quit make it up the ramps , had a one tire fire going had to roll back and try again to get up on them , popped the hood and the coolant overflow was bubbling nicely and I got underneath the car and smoke was rolling out from the bottom of the heads. car didnt overheat eitehr and I let it run for like 20 minutes. fans didnt turn on either.

just what I needed , looks like this motor is coming out and im just gunna go ahead and attempt to swap the 95 engine and 5spd. gahh I hate cars.

so you went from fine to trans and engine problems? Check your trans and engine oil levels.

and if you let it run for 20min and the fans didn't kick on, you most likely have a bad gauge.

well I changed the oil , used cheapo 10-30 , wix filter and new crush ring. then drove it up and down the road twice , maybe a mile , car started pouring smoke out the exhaust , tranny felt like crap at times but did pull hard once it came out of it. I was suspiscous my awd hadnt been working since I bought the car , now I know I was right couldn't even get up a crappy little ramp. I looked quick for a tranny dipstick and didnt see one , and the fans were working prior to today.

Tranny dip stick in on the driver's side by the starter.

Check in Park.

Auto tranny won't work right when the engine is running crappy. It upsets the tranny computer.

Check your oil level, check/swap your rad cap, make sure the coolant is full and burped.

Then try it again.

new devolopment. put the car up on jack stands and floored it ( not safe I know ) all but the front left wheels move. im thinking stuck caliper may be causing my awd to screw up ? it did move when I really floored it and I couldn't spin it by hand. I did put in the fwd fuse and drove it then took it out , and maybe that caused a shock to the system to get the rear wheels spinning again. im gunna have to dig into the front wheel to see if it is a stuck caliper. hopefully that will fix the problem.

got the caliper off. sure enough it was stuck and sure enough I snapped off one of the bolts. yay

Abs or non abs, the calipers are the same. But yeah, seized calipers suck!!! Just let me know. I have a for sale thread and it says what I have

abs will have come on due to all 4 wheels not spinning at the same time...car thought you were about to die!!! itll go out by itself.

just picked up wrx brakes from bratman only to get home and find out someone broke off one of the bolts holding the stock caliper bracket to the hub , does anyone know if the 95 hubs are the same as my 98 hubs ? thanks

They should be the same, but it is also possible to get the broken piece out. It is some what common for those to be broken off. Damn Maine rust!

since your car is an automatic make sure that there is no fuse in the holder under the hood on the passender side with a cap that says FWD. the autos have a electric dif lock out for the rear wheels incase you get a flat.
