Brakes are done but....

the last time the brakes were changed it looks like someone galled the threads in the bottom bolt hole of the front caliper.

You're lucky you maintained enough thread to put them back together those things stripping is a common problem if I'm reading you correctly.

Something about aluminum calipers and steel bolts corroding together?

Im no engineer but why wouldnt they design it and make the caliper a "through hole" and make the steel threaded? Well at least Im not the only one. So how do others remedy it?

found my solution i think. Its pretty bad when you have to helicoil your cookiein Brembos. Great design. I should be an engineer if that's the raisin they come up with.

the steel vs aluminum problem is nothing new. alum vs steel + road salt basically equals a freaking battery....and you have seen the results.

I had a Land Rover back in high school, it had alum bodywork and a steel body frame. the door hinges correoded so bad the driver's door literally fell off. :-

then one day we were hooking up a trailer full of firewood, headed out, and BANG the hitch tore off.

never-seize is your friend.

i would have tapped and gone to napa and got a new bolt. I dont know about helicoil.
That would be the shitty way of doing it. There isn't much there for the tap to chase out. There isn't anything wrong with the bolt. Steel vs. aluminum, steel wins. Im trying to find a Time-sert brand thread repair now. Better design but pricey.

Go for the time serts. They are the raisin. Much better than a helicoil. I have seen helicoils pull out. That thing will be better than new. Be sure to drill the hole for the insert straight. I Repeat, drill the LOVING hole straight, take your time. Good luck.
