the last time the brakes were changed it looks like someone galled the threads in the bottom bolt hole of the front caliper.
Im no engineer but why wouldnt they design it and make the caliper a "through hole" and make the steel threaded? Well at least Im not the only one. So how do others remedy it?You're lucky you maintained enough thread to put them back together those things stripping is a common problem if I'm reading you correctly.
Something about aluminum calipers and steel bolts corroding together?
That would be the shitty way of doing it. There isn't much there for the tap to chase out. There isn't anything wrong with the bolt. Steel vs. aluminum, steel wins. Im trying to find a Time-sert brand thread repair now. Better design but pricey.i would have tapped and gone to napa and got a new bolt. I dont know about helicoil.
My bad pat i did write that wrong I meant the "bottom bolt hole" not the bottom bolt.i would have tapped and gone to napa and got a new bolt. I dont know about helicoil.
Go for the time serts.
