Cabled Clutch

So spinmastert is going to be putting the tranny from my obs into his impreza with the 2.2t. Before this swap gets underway we would like to acquire all the necessary parts and info. The tricky part is the clutch in the obs was a cable system. I've heard that if you put an upgraded "stronger" clutch in with a cable system the pedal would be super hard to push. So with that i have many questions...

What clutch will be needed? One that matches a 98 obs tranny i assume?

Is a super performance clutch need for his stock 2.2t?

If a lesser clutch setup (stage I, OEM, etc) would be fine is the cable clutch fine?

If he goes with a higher clutch setup (stage II+, etc) would he better off to get a hydrolic clutch assembly?

Will a hydrolic assembly work with a tranny that has cable setup on it?

Help give me some clarity. Thanks.

When i did my manual swap last winter i encountered all these questions, my advice is to go with a hydraulic setup, the clutch system with hydraulic versus cable is way beefier and fairly simple to make work, i am not positive what the clutch setup is like with imprezas but im sure it would be simple to make the hydro work. bbs.legacycentral.org has a lot of good information and a member named josh has a good site http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/swap/swap.html . If you guys need any help on this project i have faced every issue with this and you probably can gain from my mistakes.

so basically it is u to you as long as you have the mounting points On your fire wall for the hydraulic clutch set up it comes down to your own preference. the trans it self can accept either cable or hydraulic but remember you need to match the shift fork to the clutch and the pivot point. the hydraulic will be a little less stiff to push with an stage 2+ clutch kit. if you have any more ? about the swap it self Ive done a few. if you check out urabusturbo i did the swap for him just a few months ago.

I had Exedy Stg 1 in my rally car for a while with cable clutch and it was fine. easy action and good hard launches.

swapping out the hydraulic setup is a lot of work, you need to switch the pedal cluster, flywheel, throwout bearing etc etc. I like to keep it simple-- there are always enough other issues with a swap so you don'd really need to complicate things unless there's a clear advantage.
