Cell phone companies

So I've been with the same cell company which will remain namless... I'll call them VW to hide their real identity... for like 5 years.

I always pay my bill basically ontime, I paid them $2890 in 2005 alone for cell phone service... I move to maine and switch my three cell lines to Maine numbers.. from Texas numbers... I continue to pay on line for 6 months.. then WHAM!!!! My credit monitor service notifies me of a negative hit on my credit report... guess who? yup VW!!! 130 point drop!!!! why you might ask? because there was a $174 outstanding balance against my Texas numbers...!!! WTF!!!!! they said that they mailed me a final bill!!! what? How come it didn't show up on the online statement? I ask. It's a different account... well that would have been handy to know earlier!! so now I battle with VW to get it taken off... they said they tried to get ahold of me. They are a Frigging telephone company!!!! I have three of their phones!!! how the F*ck could they not get ahold of me???!!!!

no appeals process, no recoarse.... just another big company sticking it to the little guy.

Keep on them... they'll cave. They typically do. If it's Cingular you just need to keep calling until you get a competent rep on the phone. This may take 10 to 12 calls.

We found an item on our credit report when we were going to buy the house. It's a charge off from a Utility company. Here's the kicker... it's a chargeoff for a balance of $0.00. Yes... ZERO dollars... Some asshat clicked the wrong field when closing the account that was paid in full causing a 100 point drop from one of the credit reporting agencies.

when me and my dad shared a verizon account a couple years ago we got screwed as well.

after about a year of our shared minutes plan, they changed my plan to ZERO minutes. after that every minute i used was an overage charge of about $0.80 or whatever. in one month we had an $800 phone bill.

so of course they dont want to help us, and tell my dad that he cant talk to anybody until hes pays the bill (sounds like runnah). so basically he cant get them to take the bill off until hes already paid it. great.

we ended up dropping the service and going to cingulair, who have been great. my dad is still battling with verizon out of spite at this point.

also a coworker of mine worked on the phones in the bill collection department at verizon. he said there were always horror stories of people getting screwed by them. his favorite was the '1-bill', where they put your house and cell on the same bill. if you pay one of the bills then sign up for the service right after that then they just double bill you on the one you just paid. everytime someone signs up. then its IMPOSSIBLE to stop the service. he said even if they tried to, and ran the program to cancell it, it wouldnt work.

anytime anyone wants my opinion of a cell company i say verizon and cingulair are about equal service, but verizon will screw you on billing.

WOW!

and I was getting pissed with Cingulair for their $7 per phone "road side assistance" charge that I have to call and get them to take off every other month.

"Hi Cingulair, I am stuck on the side of the road and my cellphone dosen't work..."

Them: "Umm how are you calling us then"

ME: "Cell phone"

wow...that sucks, I love US Cellular. The aren't #1 when it comes to new technology, but up my way, they are the only one who has any towers. So you can use another company up here, but yr reception is half of what a USC customer would be. Granted though, my phone doesn't work at home, it doesn't work until I drive the five miles into town. But I've never had any problems with them....

i've also heard good things about t mobile, but i'm not sure how good their coverage is.

My G/f has it.....and once you get North of Turner, you don't get any service...none...no roaming...no nothing

For what its worth, I use Tracfone. A little limited to what you can use for phones, but you buy a card of minutes (units) at WallyWorld, RiteAid, I think Staples, maybe some others. You can also buy online. SARCASM-Not that anyone here spends much time online

-SARCASM. They use other companies towers so you have coverage almost anywhere that you can get sevice. The minutes are fairly expensive, but I don't use my phone much so in the long run it works out cheaper for me. I think my wife and I spend 200-250 a year. No roaming, they deduct double "units" for when you are out of your home area.

I have t-mobile, used to have US Cellular. I liked US Cellular for the free incoming EVERYTHING, but they suck if you are going out of your little area. They give you a lot of minutes if you stay local, but I have sporatic moments where I head out of state and sometimes out of New England and so I either wouldn't be able to use my phone due to not wanting to pay the roaming, or I wouldn't be able to use my phone because their national plans have crappy amounts of minutes and I would go over. I also like being able to call t-mobile 24 hrs a day 7 days a week unlike US Cellular. Both of them are better than what I have heard about Unicel though.

x2 I have had reception everywhere I go even out in the Magalloway stage of the MFR, still trying to find where it doesn't work.

If it's Cingular drop me a PM..I'll get it fixed for ya.
Wait a sec...You work for Cingular? If so, there's something I need you to take care of for me. Last time I was down there, there was a redhead named Jen that worked at the kiosk in the Mall. I lost her card, so I need you to get me her home phone #, and find out if she's single. ;D
