Changing starter in 96 Neon = PITA

blah...I just finished changing the starter in my g/f's car... what a grandma...

the haynes manual instructions...sucked

they said to pull the front engine mount bolt and lower the engine forward and you'll have more room...it lowered the engine 3/4 of an inch...

and you can't even get to the top bolt from there..you have to pull the battery box....which it says nothing about...

I'll have to say that it was great in the troubleshooting area...it confirmed my thinking that it was the solenoid...

and while I'm bitching...the starter was $125 at VIP for a new one. I called around for a rebuilt one, and they were like $175.....after the core charge...!! WTF is up w/ that?

but I got it in and it only cost the $125 and gas to Farmington and back...

and I got major brownie points w/ the g/f...

if you need any more parts we have a 1/2 a dozen or so neons in the yard ;D and that starter would have only cost you $10

Thanks guys....lol....

Gabe the trip to freeport would have been nice, but it would have added hours to a job that took too long...I am however looking for a passengers side headlight for said 96 neon...the one that's on it is yellow and useless when it comes to lighting up the road...
