I cant tell you how many cars ive had that they don't work in. as a smoker its a must , it also comes in handy for cell chargers , air pumps etc... how do I fix it ?

Can you get behind the panel it plugs in to and check the harness with a tester light? I know sometimes they frig up in the plug and need to be replaced

Yea, I'd start with checking fuses.

It's pretty easy to pull the panel off the plug is in and check the plugs going into the back of it. They're just crappy spade connectors, one could easily have come loose.

Not to say ray is wrong, but I don't know if an impreza and a legacy have the same fusebox setup. I'd still check see if nothing is blown.

ive had 2 fix a few lighters already... one in a baja & one in a legacy gt. first look at the fuse make sure that's not the problem then acsess the wiring harness behind the socket to make sure its not stock wireing that is bad. if ur all clear up to there the problem is in the cigarette socket itself. u can eather get a new one, or fix it like did. if u look at the back of the socket theres a small black wire connecting the "tip"(from the back) this is small wire connectong the possitive side of the lighter. due to all the current used to heat up the lighter heating element this small wire would be melted. u can us a ohms reader to see theres no connection from the "tip" to the contact where the cars harness plugs in. simply replacing this wire should fix u up just fine.

thanks , I got it working the other day just to have it melt the plug on my air pump. yay. idk if I left the pump running too long ( 10 minutes ) or theres something else wrong. haven't had time or any more plug in things im willing to sacrifice to the subaru gods.

hmm take a look at what size fuse u used& maybe go down a fuse size or 2. that should make the fuse burn out before any more melting happens.
