Clutch slipping on OBXT

I bought an '05 OBXT with about 37K miles a month ago. I didn't notice any issues with the clutch, but now at Stage 2 the clutch is slipping under hard acceleration. It happens right after the turbo spools and the car starts pulling hard, especially uphill in 3rd gear.

The previous owner was an older gentleman, so maybe he wore out the clutch. What should I do next in terms of diagnosing the problem? Is this a common issue? Could it be something other than the clutch, like maybe a belt? I've had 3 WRX's and none had clutch problems.

Research indicates that the LGT's and OBXT's suffer from weak factory clutches. Someone on LGT.com recommended an ACT clutch kit. I'm afraid I might be looking at a $1K repair. Hmmm, paging Lobstah!

Ouch. Unfortunetly, once they are slipping, it never goes away. It will just get worse. Give M&A a call and see what they can do about sticking a clutch in for you. $1000 seems high.

Are you saying 1k for the install? or 1k for the clutch and installation? Because in that case, it is still a bit steep, but not entirely unreasonably.

cause my powertrain warr. is good till 60k miles or 5 years which ever came first call evergreen and find out

Well, not really much of a chance of having this covered under warranty. Now I'm looking for the most cost efficient way to take care of this. Evergreen said it often winds up being a $1300 job when it's all said and done.

I said it once.... Ill say it again. Give M&A a call and see what they can do for you.

Or Evergreen.

If you buy your own clutch it will be 10x cheaper than a Subaru OE clutch. And we have loaners. Subaru loaners. Or if you have morning or afternoon (depending on appmt time.) to kill you can wait for it. Or, I can meet you in NH again and me and you swap your car for the loaner, I drive your car to EG, clutch gets done, and I meet you in NH to swap back.

Or take your chances at Profile.

That's what I want to do; buy a clutch online somewhere and then have someone install it for me. It just seems like labor crazy expensive for this job. Another problem is that vacation traveling time is coming up and I really don't want to be driving hundreds of miles with a clutch that is going. I'd like to do this sooner than later.

Through LGT.com, I contacted FredBeansParts who gave me this link:

Seems like a reasonable price. Apparently the '05-'06 OEM clutch is crap compared to the '07-'09 which will fit my '05, but only if you buy the flywheel as well. Of course I'd prefer to go a more reasonably priced route if possible.

What, if anything, do I have to do with my Cobb AP and the ECU when having a clutch installed? Would I need to reflash afterward for any reason?

check out Exedy Stage 1 clutch setup. have had great luck with those over the years, even worked well in 2.5RS rally car, which didn't exactly get babied.

very streetable, smooth takeup, launch (or twitch your buddy out of the snowbank) without fear

I think he was going more for pointing out the power increase from your stage 2, so you would need a stronger(better) clutch.
