Cracked windshield?

Do you know if Maine requires windshield coverage on auto insurance policies,or is it an option? I can't remember specifying anything but my windshield is cracked due to a stone chip and I need it replaced.

 
I don't think it is REQUIRED, but it is generally included in most "good" policies. Check yours.

if your policy is like most in Maine, you'll have to pay a deductible equal to roughly half the cost of a new windshield.

$100 0r $150 deductible

$100 to $150 add'l for the glass

don't do it at a suby dealer, go with one of the independent glass places, they'll come to you instead of you having to hassle with scheduling a visit to glass place or dlr.

So it will run around $300 through insurance,and double without? My 95 Saab was quoted at $300 total w/o insurance being involved...?

 
impreza windshields run about $300 thru independent glass places.

you pay yor deductible, insurance covers the rest.

my g/f/s Forester windshield was about the same. heated ones run quite a bit more

Call your insurance peeps... you probably have a $100 comprehensive deductible. I think that's about standard these days.

 
So it started out as a chip,became a small crack,and then expanded.I called my insurance and they said they will repair anything at no-cost if it is smaller than a dollar bill.Otherwise,I have to pay my $500 deductible for a replacement.Well,that seriously blows.

Luckily,the crack got bigger when the girl hit my car,so they are going to replace it because now I can't have it fixed!

 
my jetta coverage was the same way. Pay the 500 det, or fix it myself for 300...so I traded it in. ;D

 
I've never had a deductible on my comprehensive insurance, and it is really cheap. I wouldn't be without comp. it covers most everything except of course collission, theft, water damage, glass, vandlism, check with your company if you have an SUV you want to put comp on because some companies are not covering the rear side glass because of the expense of tinted glass.I checked for my Grand and Rover because those I would hate to have to pay for, luckily mine covers it.

thanks for the tip. We have a Saturn SUV with factory tinted glass. Never really thought about how much it would cost to replace it.

Ask your glass place what the cash price is if you don't go through insurance.

I think the last few windshields (non-heated) in my Forester were about $250, installed. Yeah, it's a bit more than putting it through the insurance, but then the insurance company doesn't raise my rates for having claims, either.

And then getyour car inspected ASAP. Invariably someone will kick up a stone at you within 100 miles of getting a new windshield put in, putting a nice crack in it.

 
most places around here will let you slide with a small crack in the window...because it happens so much on the dirt roads and in the winter
