Daylight Savings Time

WTF.

So I'm the blackberry administrator... so I put the appropriate patches on the server and push out the DST patch downloader to all of the users. The patch downloader gets sent to everyone but, due to network congestion, etc, not everybody got it installed. That was version 1.5. Well, somewhere since I sent that patch, Blackberry decided to release a NEW patch... version 2.3. So now all my peeps with v1.5 downloader can't download the v2.3 patch and their calendar's are jacked, their time is off, blah blah blah....

So I rebuild the application package to push out to everyone but yet some users are too impatient to wait... and they cry... and I have to manually do it. Breakin' my ballz the whole time.

i think when all this DST stuff is done i'm gonna feel like James Bond in Casino Royale... EEch!!!!

Wait until you have to deal with all that BS, and you have to go home to a cryin kido! Daddy drinks because you cry!!!

:D

I've had startup issues with 2 Windows XP SP1 systems at work since the time change. I don't know how you feel, because it's certainly smaller than your pain, but these systems are causing a severe throughput issue.

well I had to wait an hour to enter my report for an arrest I made, because the computers on the system didn't have the DST patch...

Why don't you apply SP2??? A lot of crap was fixed with SP2. My work laptop didn't update cuz it didn't recieve the patch... Evilaspie was droppin the ball! AHahhaha! j/k!

Because I had to reboot the systems and didn't have the original disks. Small business finds it difficult to purchase new copies of Windows, especially for second-rate machines. I'm just waiting until the summer to convince my boss to invest in new computers.

You need the original disk to download the SP2 update? Hmm... Don't go to Vista... i've heard terrible thing about compatibility. Wait till Microsoft works out the bugs and Vista SP1 comes out.

I took that to mean that they weren't able to download sp2 due to using one disk on more than one machine...

no?

Hmmm... if I could only go back and see the pre-edited message...

I can't help it if your lil' patches don't go out over VPN when i'm sunning myself by the pool in Florida. HAHA!

But here's the new dilemma... The Blackberrys did not update cuz the original patch was a dud. So I pushed the latest & greatest patch to everyone. Well... if the user manually "sprung ahead" now their BB is 1hr fast! HA! And they're calling in becuase now it's fast. whutevah.

I heard about someone being an hour ahead, but couldn't figure out why. Now it's just funny. Especially since i don't have to fix it. ;D

We tried to push the patch, too. We gave up after 3/4 of a day on the phone with RIM and having the 2 units we tested on simply removing themselves from the BES. So, we gave the users 3 options:

1: Emailed them all the link to the manual patch, click "download" once, then "restart" once, done.

2: Set your time zone to Central for a few weeks.

3: Don't do anything, and deal with it for a few weeks.

No problems thus far.

It's really an easy fix... but you need the v2.3 to be pushed to users (handhelds need to be v4.0 or higher if i'm not mistaken). Otherwise... just click on the blackberry browser, select the DST link, and download the patch. Bada Bing, bada boom!

It's BAAAACCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Revenge of DST! Now on a PC near you!

I forgot that this past weekend was the OLD DST change... well... guess who had a couple old UNIX voicemail systems (with no patch available) that decided to jump ahead?????? Nothing like the 5:30am reboots!!!! WOOT!

Yeah, the Time Clock got FUBAR'ed, as did my NT machine that serves as a print workstation. >
