ok.. what would I want for upgraded diffs. And I am talking Front Center and Rear. :dontknow:

I can't seem to find any.. even from the Rally Chassis builders.

:sad5:(yes I am looking at you DG) :sad5: :hal:

your wrx already has limited slip rear and 5kg center lsd

one upgrade option would be 20kg ctr and a front helical lsd. prepare to apply Cubic Money.

this would give you true awd on gravel and snow...really wakes up the car grip-wise. youd probly want a dccd setup as well so you wouldn't have to deal with the full lockup at all times. in fact, in low speed hard corners, locked diffes make understeer worse, not betta. OTOH, a bit of rear diff bias puts the car in Mustang Mode so you can steer with teh throttle like ye olde days.

however, the stiffer diffs would suck on the street. lots of clunking/clonking as they do their thing, and a bit of herky jerky action at low speed like around parking lots etc. they'd also cost fuel mileage

probly the simplest/best diff upgrade for a street wrx is a factory sti 6-spd box with dccd. total subaru groovy goodness.

the 6spd swap was what I figured would be the best upgrade. doesn't the 6spd have a lower top gear? as in rev higher on the highway? I know picky picky.. but this is mainly a highway car. I just want a few fixes.

well, technically the sti 6MT is shorter top gear than stock 5MT

usdm rex 5mt top gear ratio, 0.730 w/.390 final drive

sti 6MT top gear ratio, 0.756

it's down in 3rd-4th-5th gear that the 6MT really makes a difference...more than the diffs

tho sti diff controler is NOT a bad thing.... :angel12:

what about swapping in a longer 5th gear from the wrx (or other) into the 6th position on the 6spd. i know that it can be done 5spd to 5spd, but dunno about 5 to 6spd.

You're talking a cruising rpm difference of maybe a couple hundred between the 6 speed and 5 speed. Definitely not worth worrying about imo.

Check out Nasioc for people using the OBX front LSD, seems to be getting pretty favorable results.

yeah the OBX is a bit more of a retrofit with the 06 trans as it uses differen axle setup in the front.

id say for ease a 6spd or a JDM 5 speed with DCCD would be a good option.
There is a pretty cheap DCCD controller this guy on Nasioc sells, they are pretty cool actually.

I thought about the 6 spd swap, but for everything involved, I'm all set I think. Rather get a front diff and call it good (maybe a rear diff eventually).

someone correct me here but wasn't the ver7 STI non dccd? and LSDs all around?

i could be way off, but i remember hearing that that was like the ultimate tarmac set up. but probaly not what you want if your planing on gravel too.

You can just switch over to the pre 05 axles, but it would be nice if a they had a version that "just worked".
