Do I really want to change my springs on my 09 wrx?

Should I lower my car 1"

Topic says it all. I know I want to upgrade my sway bars with stiffer ones, but while I'm at it, do I want to upgrade my springs with the H&R springs that come with a Perrin suspension kit?

They lower the front by 1.1" in the front and 1.0" in the back.

Feedback is appreciated.

Thanks,

Justin

Here is a recent picture of my car.

kinda new to need anything..

I go with same stuff for quarter centuries.

it says this on their site, I have no opinion.

If you think you will be doing most of your driving in the city on less than perfect roads, or you just want a softer ride you should check out our Soft(er) Combo .
they are not thinking of winter...

There is no ride height difference between the two kits or spring rates. Same springs, just different sway bars and I want the stiffer ones.

The only feedback is to go lower or not. that is why I am contemplating this decision, and awaiting feedback from you guys.

Thanks for feedback though boxer.

Have you checked out 3gwrx? Everything I've seen says that any set of springs is going to blow your struts. The stock struts are already maxed out from the factory. So I'd stay away from springs unless you are doing struts as well

If you wanna play in the dirt, I say keep it stock height. If you want springs, get spacers to keep the clearance going. If you don't care about clearance, go hog wild.

What would I do about using spacers if I got the springs? Is it difficult to add the spacer if I chose that direction?

As long as you don't go beyond 1.5 inchs you'll be just fine.....if you want to go lower get coil overs and run stock in the winter.

If it were me, I would do what Dan (RangeleyRallyDG) did, and go with the RalliTek swaybars, they are cheaper and more durable. The only good reason to go with Perrin is for weight savings and if your not going to strip your interior for every spare ounce then whats the point? I drive a lot on craptacular roads and I think that the stock springs are about as stiff as you want to go, I have stiffer springs on my old car with KYB struts and they are not as comfortable to ride on.

BTW, the Perrin's are hollow, they can collapse under severe abuse, the ralliteks wont do that. I also heard that you may wanna try some endlinks before you try swaybars because they stiffen things up and remove a lot of slop on thier own.

1" on these cars is A LOT! that's pretty low. I hit things I don't want to on Swift springs. They are right around .80"

Yeah, no $hit, the curbs hit the underside of my 09s front bumper as it is, if I lowered it, I would be going through a lot more than 1 front bumper per year as I am now.

Well I guess its settled then. No springs, just the sways and endlinks and a front lip. I'll do some research on some sway bars.

so I got into a little bit more researching on the rallitek and perrin sways and pictures with lowering springs.

#1 is to contact both companies.

#2 determine warranties on products.

Perrin:

Pros: Fully adjustable between the endlinks and the sway bars, site says made from SOLID steel with MIG welded ends that will never fail.

Cons: the mounting points to the sways are welded

Rallitek:

Pros: Forged sway bars and ends

Cons: Not adjustable

depending on the warraties for both products, I may be going with perrin, just because it is adjustable.

As for the springs, I know my last post I said I wouldn't, but after looking at a few pictures it doesn't look that bad and I wouldn't be going with a front lip, since the bumper would be low enough. and as dan noted earlier I could always add spacers.

Any other feedback from you guys?

my 03 wrx wagon is very low as well. Been driving it all winter. It does ok in the snow, gets me through with no issues. of course different suspension would be way better for snow or dirt.

if you're going for pavement performance lowered springs are fun. run your stock struts till they go (and they will) then upgrade them and enjoy better dampening.
