So i guess im looking for a downpipe, here in maine is the catless pipe gonna cause me headaches? CEL, inspection, etc? The Catless ones seem to be cheaper, but im curious at what cost. Any help much appreciated.

Nobody?

if you run a catless, yes, you will get a cel. and if you go to a place that does a really really thorough inspection, yea, they would fail you for a catless.

however, if you get the catless downpipe, and a tune for it,

you will get no cel, and your car will be much happier without a cat. also, we al know places you can get inspected where they don't look under your car. so that issue is solved as well.

as for cost, you can find them in good condition for around $100-$200

I am 100% fully against a street car that is totally catless. Strictly track cars, or off road rally cars that are really putting down insane amounts of HP should be the only ones running fully catless. You will only reep the true benefits of a fully catless set up once you are at that point. In the mean time, a nice street set up, with a highflow cat in the downpipe, and a catless uppipe is all you will ever need. The power gains comparing catless to catted are minimum to none, ESPECIALLY in a street car. Your exhaust note will sound much deeper and smoother with a high flow cat in the DP, and I'm a true believer that having some back pressure from the cat to the turbo is actually a good thing. You will also never be hassled by cops or getting an inspection, because once they see that bulge in the DP for the cat, you will be good to go. Also, you will get a CEL from both a catless and catted DP, so you will have to tune it out either way. The other problem is that catless DPs are so cheap compared to a catted DP, so it's hard to justify spending $100+ more for the catted version. And lastly, obviously, catted DPs are more environmentally friendly.

Butttt then again, it's hard to ignore the benefits of catless. Like I said before, they are much much cheaper in price, and they will probably yield that little extra ~3-5 HP that we all want to squeeze out, and is obviously less restrictive.

Call me a tree hugger all you want, but I strongly reccomend going with a DP with a high flow cat. No, I don't hate people that are catless either

The nice unburned fuel smell, and backfires are the best!

I run catless always have. Technically they can still fail you for having an aftermarket catted downpipe as well. Your still removing one cat. Catless smells good and backfires which is always fun

plus you are gaining a few hp and they are cheaper. Personally I think a catless invidia is the way to go.

yeah as soon as i got my car I punched the cat and welded on a preformance magnaflow muffler and it sounds 100 percent better and i haven't dyno'd it but i can definetly tell the horsepower it greater. As for the inspection, in maine you don't have to pass emissons and you can deffinetly find a person to inspect your car without loking underneath it.

Cumberland County has emissions.

Yea I forgot about that. If you live in cumberland you may not want to go cattless.
you can, you just need to fool the rear o2 sensor and ecu to think theres a cat there. it costs under $10 and can be done in under 30min. as long as the ready monitors check out in the ecu on a obd2 test, you will pass emmisions in cumberland county.

And how is that done^
go to napa, buy a pair of 18mm spark plug anti foulers, drill the centers out so the o2 sensor will fit in, screw the 2 together with the o2 sensor in the last one, and put it where the 2nd sensor goes and done. (run on sentince win) Ask StiXXX, i did this to his car 2 years ago, no CEL.

You can fool around the the ECU/CEL all you want, but you won't pass the visual inspection if they see no bulge in the DP.
