i'm trying to de-junk the garage this winter, hopefully someone out there will be able to use some of this stuff. most of it is from the motor rebuild/swap fiasco concerning my moms 99 forester. if any of the prices are out of line make an offer, i just guessed on some of them.

short story to explain the history of all the parts:

my moms '99 forester had a motor that sounded quiet but smokes consistently. i thought it might be the drivers head (sludged up spark plug). i replaced that head and it still smoked. so i figured it must be the rings. so i pulled the whole motor. i tore down a noisy '01 2.5 i had so i could rebuild it with new oem parts. got it all apart and my dad wanted it done quicker so he just had me order a complete '02 salvage motor. i put that in and it STILL smoked for about half an hour. i believe it was oil buildup in the exhaust that was burning off. now i wonder if the head that i replaced would have solved the problem had i just let it run longer.

First, the original motor w/ replaced head from '01 motor, $500:

'99 sohc (phase 2) longblock. needs nothing? it does fit the above '02 intake.

leak down test shows 'low' to 'moderate' leakage on all cylinders. i'm not sure what a normal leak down numbers are for a 100K motor, but if that's normal then i would say that you're good to go with this motor as-is, and the smoke i saw after replacing the head must have been from the oil in the exhaust, same as it was after replacing the whole motor.

Second, the block i took apart to rebuild, $100:

ej25 sohc block, 2 pistons are scored and should be replaced, cylinder walls have been rehoned.

block is currently disassembled because of the re-hone

if i dont sell this sometime in the near future i'll probably rebuild it with all new parts and sell it w/ heads as a rebuilt longblock. i already have the OEM rings, bearings and seals if you want to buy those to do it yourself.

rehoned block:

all parts needed:

bearings look good though:

'02 sohc intake manifold from the salvage motor $50.

harness isn't compatible with the '99 so i swapped the intake mani's.

sohc heads $150.

different years but they are a matching pair.

one '01 head from the torn down motor is in good shape. one '99 head has its combustion chamber and exhaust ports is all gunked up with burnt oil and carbon soot. cam/rollers/valves move properly but there could still be a bad seal somewhere. or not. pics on request.

'02 sohc 5spd flywheel:

sohc timing belt, low milage. i probably shouldnt have bothered to replace it when i rebuilt the new motor but i had already bought the new one. $10

'99 forester clutch $50.

i replaced it while i had the motor out even though it worked well.

not sure how thick the disc is but it looks pretty close to the thickness of the replacement valeo one i ordered:

Evan, I think Chris' Outback just raisin the bed today. He said it started rapping and then died. I think he was doing donuts with about 1qt of oil in it,so it figures. :BangHead:

Anyways, I might have him get in touch with you when he finds out for sure what it needs. It's a 98 DOHC,but I'm sure he would take anything cheap that would fit, especially not to have to deal with that engine again.

the sohc block will fit, but it'll be ~11.4:1 compression and need high octane, but it'll be another 15-20hp :headbang:

the full swap to a sohc, heads and all, would require a little research as the wiring is a different i'm sure. maybe if you use the old throttle body and sensors it would be fine?

sohc block that is disassembled is sold, still have the new oem bearing and ring sets for it.
