engine differences

what are the differences between the sti engine and the wrx engine(2008+)? I assume heads and the evcs, but is that all?

Nothing from my understanding. They are both EJ257 blocks. After 08 the motors came 100% identical. Your WRX is sporting the same AVCS heads that the STI is. STI's don't come with any sort of forged internals.

Aren't the WRX blocks stamped as EJ255, while the STIs are EJ257? Probably the only difference haha.

The only difference in the heads may be the cams in the STIs having slightly higher lift.

I know in the past years if you had a EJ255 block(wrx) this piston domes were dished diffrent than the EJ257 block. So the motors were diffrent for sure. I know also that the new 08+ AVCS Cams are made diffrent than the older 04-07 STI AVCS cams. The AVCS cam wrench I designed and made will not fit a 08+ AVCS car from Subaru. Only 07's down.
