what about the cars that dont run on anything but 91+ octane?

are we just supposed to det. all the time?

leave it to the hippies to cry about MTBE, ok so they are phasing it out...

now look what we are getting.

nice job hippy.

im sure this raisin runs fine in your Vanagon

speaking of which Runnah....what are you guys/gals paying for 93 these days?

I filled up for $35 yesterday at 2.79 in Strong...

one of the cheapest places around I belive...and come to think of it...I think the sign said $2.75

I think there are too many cars on teh road which require premium fuel. If they do away with 91/92/93 octane there will be hell to pay. But if they swap out the old 87 for 79, then it looks like we''ll all be buying mid-grade for our buggies.

I'm sure there's more to this story...

MTBE sucked anyway. my fathers 900T ran like crap with the gas in maine.

Actually..

Down here in Massachusetts, we have 10% Ethanol in our gas (not sure about Maine)

Anyhow, my MPG has actually increased since the switch. I used to get 300-325 per tank, now I get 400-425. No difference in driving habits, for those of you who are thinking that.

We'll see what happens.

$2.75 for the good stuff.

$2.67 for 91 in Pittsfield. Might be even less today.

yeah but that blend's going to be bullshit for a lot of ppl... the alcohol in it will eat at steel fuel lines, and chew on injector's innards....

and the octanes ARE less, so I don't know how you're getting better mileage, or still running fine without knocking???

Okay, so I'm confused. I've been told by many people (including some VERY respected mechanics) that Octane has little to do with gas mileage (ie rating does not, in most cases, affect mpg)

Is this true? If so, what would the Ethanol have to do with mileage differences, higher and lower.

Also, how do you figure it would eat through lines, injectors, etc.? Someone educate me!

alcahol is corosive. Which is why after a race, F1 teams "pickle" thier engines. they pump out all of the alcahol and pump in gas to prevent the engine/lines from getting eaten by the fuel...
