First Subaru! Looking for mod ideas!

Bought my first subie back in march, it's a 2003 WRX Wagon and is almost completely stock... for now. Got referred to this site by a friend (gakosaurasrex). I actually live on Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts but spend a lot of time in Rangeley. I've always wanted a rex and finally bought one after selling my wrangler. I look forward to dumping tons of money into mods and making it the car i've always wanted. So far i've essentially gotten the car up to par (Had several dings removed, other misc. body work including some paint, a new CV joint, ac compressor and hose, alternator, ect.) I also threw on some Enkei EkM3 Rims and had the windows tinted. It's looking nice but I think the next step is cat-back, or possibly a turbo-back. Let me know what you have any other ideas for mods. Thanks -Steve

Yeah, it's a daily driver so the mods are more or less going to be for aesthetics but i'd also like to get some more horses out of her. I've always liked the sounds of a BOV but i've heard that it's not good for the car because it makes it run rich? any opinions on whether or not to add a BOV?

I run a gfb 50/50 valve and I haven't seen any issues at all! Get a cat less up pipe and downpipe and go get a stage 2 tune! So worth it

Cool, I appreciate the feedback. Any particular brands or models for a cat-back that anyone would recommend? I have looked towards the Borla Hush because people have said it is relatively quiet. gakosaurasrex recommended the indivia q300 as a quiet exhaust.

if you want quiet, i would not recommend an invidia n1 exhaust.

welcome to the site! We can help you spend your money!

glad to see you finally stopped by to say hello& congrats on the rex! theres a huge gang of subie wagons in the area now we all need to meet up and have a sweet photo shoot! stage 2 is always a good way to go. but i would suggest upgradeing your suspension first. that will give you some time to learn the car and how it reacts. before you give it a whole bunch of power.  i can vouch for drvsdwz about the N1 being stupid loud.

For sure, I have to go to Orientation at UMaine Orono on the 16th I think so ill be in Rangeley for a week or so after that. Oh and i've been noticing a burning smell after driving sometimes, pretty sure it's burning oil. Bad turbo?

P.S. It had a leaky oil filter when I first bought it, could I just be smelling some remaining oil?

Valve cover gaskets are usually a first thing to look at on the buggeye Rex. Mine are going. The passenger side one drips right onto the up pipe and that's why u can smell it!

Spend money first on things like maintenance, tires, fluids, brakes, etc.

After those are in check, then you can start tinkering around with other parts.
