foam air filters??? help me please

in looking for a cold air for my 08 rex, i came across the perrin cold air. but it comes with a foam filter and i dont know what the deal is with them. i just want max hp, but still want that good throaty sound. is the foam gonna satisty both? please help meeee

 
you'll get the max HP from a foam filter( 7hp!!! woohooo!!!!) just like a cloth. the facemelter runs a foam perrin filter it's the same diffrence.

 
make sure you do your homework before ordering any intakes for the 08. most will make your car run like poo unless you have your car tuned for it. only 1-2 companies make an intake that will work without a tune. harman motive is one. it basically has to do with the position of the MAF and the diameter of the tube. i would say the first thing you should get is an exhaust. that is something you can enjoy right away. i have the SPT cat back and drop in filter. i plan on going open source tune (tactrix cable FINALLY released today) but you can use accessport too.

just be aware. not many maps for the accessport have added tune for intakes. that's why i plan to do open source tuning. i can pic my mods. and tune the way i want.

i think EM (engine management) should be one of the first things you get once starting to make the car for faster. too many justbuy and bolt on parts and expect to make the car go faster. but it will make your car run worse, or unsafely. you need to make sure your ECU is keeping up with your parts.

 
i read someplace the best thing you can do is leave the stock airbox alone and use a K&N filter for it, that's the route i went and no issues at all.

but if you are to replace it go with SPT, designed by subaru for subaru.
