For a friend: Nissan altima help?

My friend has a Nissan Altima GXE that is having issues idling, it stumbles about yet hasn't shut off yet. Check engine light is on and he hasn't pulled the codes yet, that'll be done soon.

The internet leads us to believe that it is being caused by a bad intake gasket.

He's looking for a shop around Bangor to take his car to to have it looked at / fixed. Darlings wanted a 120 dollar diagnostic fee.

Suggestions guys?

sounds very vacuum to me. The shade tree mechanic in me would run an unlit propane torch past the intake seams and some of the vacuum lines and see if the engine increases in RPM. Don't use a lot because you want to be able to determine where it gets sucked into the system.

(the vacuum leak will draw the propane in and burn it)

I am not responsible for your actions if you blow yourself up in the process.

As fun as this would be, we don't have propane.

My friend just facebooked me this:

Figured it out. Got the check engine light pulled. Cylinder 2 not firing. Called my mechanic back home. He told me to check my plugs and wires. Sure enough, cylinder 2 plug full of oil. Replaced the plugs and wires. Car seems to be running fine.
Works for me.
