Free Adobe Photoshop trials? or other?

Looking for a free photo-chop program. Does anyone have experience with any? Adobe has free trials. My old computer has another company's home user version which worked great for me, but I can't remember the name.

Am I better off going to Staples and buying a program? I really don't need the pro version. Just a simple basic ver. Any free down loads out there worth while with out cramming my pc full of spam and garbage?

I need to be able to do this..

anything with layers will be fine.

Photoshop would probably be nice though, but its expensive as heck.

Have you tried the GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program)? It is open source and free. And the newer versions are comparable to photoshop. It is worth a try.

fotoflexor.com is the one i use, you can save the pics to your desktop and its free

i've heard of fotoflexor and a couple other entirely-online ones, but haven't used any.

the latest photoshop elements is probably the home user version that you're thinking of, and its $100. all the photo mags are raving about how great it is for the cost, but for just goofin around i would just go the free route. i would only suggest the $100 version to photographers that dont have the full version.

I use a copy of photoshop 7 I got at a yard sale for $2. I've been using that for years. I suggested the GIMP because it is OSS.

paint.net is what I'd recommend as well... I switched to Mac and picked up PS elements 7 for around $80 on Amazon. Just buy one or 2 revs prior to the latest and greatest and you can save a ton of money.

i've used gimp. good program, tough to use. without talking about legality i currently use photoshop cs2

The gimp confuses me merely because I've been using photoshop 7 for years. But it is a good program.
