frozen piston in FHI 4pot caliper!

well went to change my pads tonight and the lower inside piston is frozen.

any ideas?

HALP!

or does anyone have a spare caliper kicking around??

i'm not sure how that would work, but if you could stop the other 3 pistons from moving and pumped the brakes, it might free it up some.

PS: It's easy on Brighton brakes - 1 piston

yeah I got it to "move"

now I can't get it to move the other direction so I can put a pad in (new or old)

wicked pissah.

did the clamp thing.

I finally got it back in using a machine vise that i built in machine shop 10 or so years ago. score!

ok now for the rebuild kit!

while u got things tore up down there, make sure the glide pins aren't binding...if they are bound up it makes the brakes run hot as the calipers have a hard time sliding to adjust for pad wear....and excess heat is SO good for brake hardware.

it will be a full tear down (other than splitting the halves if I can avoid it) and the hardware will all be medal blasted and maybe hard oxdized.

I can say I was a little surprised that the piston was frozen that badly. it will be fixed in good time and that small machine vise is going to get some TLC and a nice lugnut welded to the end

actually you might be right on with the Powdercoat thing.

I'll have to talk with my powdercoat guy.

I think I am going to go anti-flashy with a nice black caliper.

chicken..... do white or something, with new black logos.

ok black would look sweet too.

well I have dumped the red flaps for black RA limiteds. I figure black calipers would be a bit more stealth.

no more epic white/red combo?

I don't think calipers really attribute to the "stealth factor" very much, unless they're green or purple or something like that.

I have been passed by a very similar car and the red really pops when the wheels are spinning, much more so than when parked.

oh and black wheels are in the plans for this little car too.
