GC RS alarrrrm probs, gaaaah!

please help me from blowing up an otherwise perfectly nice white RS...

keyless entry system is dead, new batts do not help. I now have to press the emergency override button just to start the car. fob no longer locks or unlocks the car, lites do not flash when setting the locks, the prescribed factory sequence to reset sytem and/or program new transmitter does not work, and now even the (*^*&^%&$@!!! dash lights are dead. WTF Suba-rooo??!!

evidently this is not the first time there have been probs with this particular car and its alarm...heh, there was a post-it stickie marking the "starter interrupt override sequence"in the owner's manual.

I need to get this thang troubleshot, stat.

Any suggestions of a cure, or a auto sound/alarm specialty shop would be MUCHO appreciated.

--How do I establish if prob is with the fob or system onboard the car (I have a spare keyless entry/alarm module to plug under dash)

--Seems to be some aftermarket mods on top of OEM alarm system, there's a nest of wiring bundled under dash below alarm module

--Am about to "adjust" the system with the Stihl chainsaw I just go back from the repair shop, at least THAT motor starts right up!

ouch on the "nest of wires" im currently sorting out my own wiring mess. my windows don't work. good luck, but i'd bet it lies somewhere in there.

Yeah sounds like the aftermarket crud has failed to perform. Over the years I've gotten good at removing aftermarket stuff because it interferes with the factory stuff. I'd be more than happy to get it out of there for you but don't know when I could get over to your casa de scooby.

I bet once its out and everything hooked up like original the factory remotes will work nice and the car will start and drive well.

Nigel did you ever get this problem fixed? I recently had sort of the same thing happen to my 97 L wagon. My car was purchased used and never had a key fob since my purchase. I have always just locked and unlocked the doors using the key or master lock button on the switches. Yesterday SOMEHOW the alarm decides to arm itself. Now everytime I open the door the alarm goes off and because of this the starter interrupt is engaged. Leaving me with a nice snowbank ornament. I too looked for the emergency override button but to no avail. I did somehow manage to get the car started (not sure) and at least got it into a parking spot, but now its armed again and I can't get it to start.

PLEASE HELP I am going into soobie withdrawals.

yes, i eventually removed aftermarket & factory alarm system entirely. disconnect neg batt terminal (kills alarm siren) pull off bottom dash cover on driver side. you'll need a good work light to see wtf is going on up under there. alarm box is mounted up behind fusebox. remove alarm box, unplug all connectors. look for the 2 OEM connectors that come from up under steering wheel (only 2 oem plugs left that will connect), these connect door lock actuators. plug em in and presto no mo stoopid alarm foolishness.

you end up with quite the electrical octopus left dangling from alarm box and matching octopus of connectors and wiring on chassis side, bundle these out of the way. while in there, search for starter interrupt button attached to brown wires...it's in there someplace.
