Ok for a few years now you guys have listened to my hankering for an escape from New England. Well that time is aproaching. A couple buddies of mine have finally gained interest in taking a bike trip. So TAT it is.

For those unfarmiliar with TAT, it is the Trans American Trail. It runs from Tennessee to Oregon http://www.transamtrail.com/

well I figured a good first start on a cold Friday was to take inventory of my camping gear:

0* bag on the left 40* bag on the right (slip 'em together and it is good for -20*)

Pair of packs, the one on the right, I swear is indestructible

What am I missing?? oh yeah a bike... damn.. searching pretty hard. should have something in the spring. :headbang:

let me know what you guys have for light weight camping gear that I should be picking up. I am waiting for a good stove to go on sale. I always camped with a buddy that had an MSR, so I didn't need one untill now.

I have a few custom projects that I will be working on for the trip. (cutting board that folds up over the knife (always need a good knife))

Don't forget the anti-chafey creme

Seriously, dude...this is awesome. I can't wait to hear more about it.

skip the anti-chaff, the best thing is athlete's foot spray.

plus i fyou wear a good base layer like smartwool, you are fine even in the hot stuff.

so is this a cycling trip or backpacking?

that Lowe Contour Mtn backpack is a total classic, it's light n comfy and has not really been improved upon by many mfrs knockoffs

I am looking for either a KTM 640 adv or a 950 adv.

probably going to be a couple months out now.

I was just looking at the website, I don't get why you should not navigate from West to East, how you getting home, roads?

This would be a sweet thing to do with about 5-10 guys/gals.

the only reason you shouldn't go backwards is that the roll charts are east-> west. they don't work the other way unless you use GPS waypoints.

I'm going to be riding my bike from here down to Florida with my girlfriend at the end of April. It's probably going to be WAY too hot down there for me, but we're going to see bike week in Panama City Beach and all that good stuff.

Go big or go home. I started with a Yamaha SRX 250 1cyl. Then Suzuki SV650 2cyl (wish I still had it for mod funzies.). Now my Kawi Z1k. The power is intoxicating, and not overbearing. Especially with a twin that 950 will be more then reasonable to manage, less shifting + will kick HUGE roosts. :headbang:
