Got an over heating problem! NEED HELP ASAP!!!

Alright here's the story, I bought a subaru and I've had it for a few months and had'nt driven it cause it's supposed to be a winter vehicle for me and my new born baby.

The guy I bought it from said he put a newer engine in it, sadly, I can't tell otherwise so I'm forced to believe him (for now).

So i was driving it one day and noticed that the hot air coming from the vents went cold, about five minutes after that the engine began over heating. Took it to my local mechanic he said he put a new thermostat in it and a throttle sensor (cause he said it was sticking) and everything seemed fine.

The next day I was driving and again it happened, so I put a new thermosat in it myself in case he had bought a faulty one. Put some more coolant in it and it still over heats. Took it to another mechanic he poured in some more coolant and attempted to bleed the air out of it as well. Than he plugged the computer in it and the 3rd and 4th cylinder were mis-firing but, come to find out that one of the plugs on the left side came un-done, so obviously it's just the fourth that's mis-firing.

Sorry for this being so long but I figure if you have all the info. it might be easier to diagnose the problem.

So if anyone has any ideas on any of this please write me back asap. I neep help.

a plug wire was undone, and 2 misfire codes.. and it ran fine?

getting all four going is a prerequisite to happy cooling, the boxers go a little crazy on the coolant, and even oil flow...if assymetry is part of the equation. it needs all four cylinders thumping along.

I got one that squeezes a water pump leak when a plug is bad... where is yours going?

if it is needing coolant and no obvious leaks, there is a bad gasket someplace.

the air bleed is also important, the boxer also chooses a gurgling like a teapot function, the water pump is just a direction setter...air bubbles not welcome.

headgasket failure is a typical Subie overheating culprit.

check dipstick, if oil is light brown foamy-looking, you have H/G probs

check coolant, if there is oily sheen you have h/g probs

good luck!

Don't run it like that for long or you are going to do some major damage. Those 2.5l engines don't like to be overheated over and over.

They typically send that oil intot the Cyl or into the oil. You can tell if it is leaking into a cyl by the sweet smell of the exhaust. This one is particularly bad as you can warp the block. One of our members had this issue quite a while ago. Bring this to a suby specialist and they can do a leak down test on the motor to see what is leaking and into where.

Good luck man, I would follow up on the person you purchased the car from.
