Been doing firewood and am realizing I touch these damm tree's about 5 times to actually get wood to burn...

After cutting down the tree, sawing it into bite size pieces the splitting starts... pick up the bigguns, split it into several smaller ones, restack it to dry, then move it indoors for the winter and lastly get the damm things into the wood stoves...

I am assuming a decent tree will give me a ton or so of firewood (just an estimate) I have to move that ton 5 times to get it ready to burn....

Still cheaper than fossil fuel but there has to B an easier way...

dumb firewood gets more attention than my wife does..

gargh... anyone wanna loose some weight and build a little muscle mass in my yard? free pool usage and BBQ..

i would if i was up there. .. .. if ur still doing it next month, i will be up for a week. might be able to supply some muscle

Thanx nailman... the issue I would have is the cars in the yard. My STi, UR Rex... no whey would we get anything done other than staring at internal combustion vehicles, taking drives and then it's beer-thirty by the pool.. not to mention thrumping the ATV's through the woods...

My big thing with hustling this year is a friend. He is on a limited pension for his service in Nam, has family and a terrible heart condition<---has had a few surgeries one of which gave him a stroke, almost a dozen stents and ready for multiple bypass..

I am trying to blast out all my splitting ASAP so I can haul my splitter to his yard... He and his ten year old sone still use a couple mauls to split wood and are racing against time. Because of his health issues he is trying to make sure his family has 2-3 winters worth of wood stockpiled in his barn, just in case anything happens to him....

Maniac.. yes sir.. Have an MTD 27 ton splitter, couple chainsaws (one with a dangerously modded chain), an atv, trailer and a collection of straps, ties, hooks and other devices to make it easier on ones phyiscal well being. I;d like to say I have friends to help me out but we always have ADD with the pool or ATV's so I am usually solo except for the mosquito's

Luckily this wood is already split and stacked

I have done a lot of tree cutting, cutting up into smaller pieces, moving them, splitting them (ax and maul), stacking, re-stacking inside the house... I know all about that. My back knows all about that too...

ditto that and everything attatched to my back...Glad I have a splitter!

Cant offer you my back, but i do feel your pain.Hark work worth the time.Wood feels so much better for heat then other fuel sourses and i dont feel as guilty throwing in another log on the fire, as i do turning up the dial when its 30 below:eek:

i may be able to come over next week if you need some help, or maybe this weekend. Im young my back can take it for a day... especially if there is beer at the end :-) and maybe a nice ride in a fast car

If I lived vaguely near you I'd come give you a hand in return for a ride in the STi... But I don't even live vaguely close...

I'd do the same. I used to split 5 cord a year by hand for my parents, but it's been awhile. Your right it's a lot cheaper than burning oil!!

oh its to late... Remember I am old!

I am sitting here doing shots of warm metimucil and getting ready for bed....hahaha.

Tomorrow night...but the STi will B at M/A taking a rest
