Greddy BOV install question...

okay so I got bored and figured I would get a BOV since I found one for pretty cheap. I picked it up today and was a little confused since I have never really looked into them at all. I just wanted a little more noise when I shifted since this one is set up as a recirculation...full recirc...I'm not too sure.

It is this one....

its a greddy type s...

so my question is... what the hell is the third nipple thing for? The biggest one (right) is for the recirculation, the medium one(top) is for the manifold pressure...and the third one is for.....?

when i got it it was plugged up. I could barely notice a difference in sound over stock (yes i know its set up as a bpv not a bov), but was I wrong to assume I would hear it a little bit more?

just looking for some insight to this new mod... and was it even worth the investment for what i was looking for?

thanks guys

Hmm, every Subaru Greddy Type S I look at only has the two ... the recirc and the vacuum line. I don't know what that other little one is on the purple guy.

You need a vent to atmosphere if you want to hear it. Get a turbosmart or APS 50/50 valve and you will be able to hear it and it wont make your car run like ass, well not to much

Yeah I was petty close to getting a turbosmart but the whole running like crap thing turned me away. I assumed with an aftermarket BPV setup I would at least get a taste of a better sound... Which I did just a tinnnnny bit.

do you have an intake? a short ram accentuates the bpv a surprising amount.
I actually just threw on the perrin intake tube on my existing k&n in the stock box and I can def hear it better. Intake will come soon too.

BTW the third nipple is to test the vacuum line, I had this same BOV on my RX-8 that I had boosted, btw if yours is an authentic type S your lucky GReddy stoped making them a couple years back, I use to get guys offering me money all the time at shows for my BOV cause when its vented to atmosphere it makes a very unique sound that is unpresant in any other blow off valve.

heres a link to a video of my engine bay on my old car with the greddy type s in use...

I have a turbosmart veeport bov on my car and it runs fine. no difference from stock really. i will get a little "pop" when shifting sometimes but that's just from it running a little bit rich when the air isn't being recirculated between shifts. works great though:D

ThNks for all the input guys. When I get my car back from the detailer tonight I will take some pics and see if it is truely a type S.
