Imo, this one's
easily better than Gymkhana II.
Why?
This one has what II
seriously lacked: A sense of humor.
G-II was an infomercial, and imo it looked like out-takes from a "Fast & Furious" reel.
G-One was balls-out, with not that much editing to make a killer video.
G-II was shot in many, many takes, with a director, storyboards, a very large, movie-production-like crew, and a focused, "commercial" goal.
(It was shot to
"To bring DC Shoes, the other sponsors, and (oh, yeah) gymkhana, to the masses." -Ken Block, a very loose quote)
G 2.1 was
hilarious, and the idea in and of itself, the spoof, makes me like Block & Co., a whole lot more than I did after seeing G-II's glossy, sometimes almost boring seven minutes. Those under-truck explosions were weaksauce, and it really should have ended with a drag race between Bloc and Vin Diesel,
off of a pier-if you want to stay true to form.
Hey, anything's better than nothing, but G 2.1 was, imo, much closer to G-I than G-II was.
