Headliner

4WRXter

Skier!
Does anybody know if the headliner(s) from other model year cars might work in a 2002. For those that don't know I am talking about a WRX wagon. Or if someone can point me in the right direction to find some info....

impreza interior parts like headliner changed very little between 02 and 07....probly biggest difference would be sunroof or not.

^^^^^^^^I was actually wondering if you still had one. I'm going to try it with what is left of mine. What would you be looking to get for yours, jcovey?

I'm wondering if my aftermarket sunroof would prohibit the O.E. full headliner from sitting properly.

not sure about the sunroof, I have never even been in a subie with one...

I'm having a hard time finding out what the headliner is worth, so I guess just make me an offer.

Joe,

I am in the process of re-covering what is left of my headliner. If I totally screw it up or doesn't come out the way I want, I will contact you. Thanks

My headliner is pretty dirty. Thinking about pulling mine down to make it easier cleaning it. Is it hard to pull down...? I have an 02 wagon also...

It's not that hard to get down/out. I'll try to give a verbal how-to.

The first thing I would suggest is to get a trim removal tool. It's like a bent, forked screwdriver. I think I got mine at VIP for under $10.

Remove or at least loosen the rubber trim pieces at the top of the door openings.

Remove the sun visors, the center "sunshade" thingy in front of the maplights. You will need a thin screwdriver to remove the lens from the maplights. Look closely, you will see some notches to insert the screwdriver. There are two small screws up beside the bulbs to remove so the maplight assembly will come out.

Carefully, using the trim removal tool, un-clip the end pieces of the grab handles over the doors. There are 2 clips, top & bottom, near the ends of the end covers. Two screw hold the handles on.

The dome light comes out, similar to the maplight.

The front pillar trim snaps off. The center pillar trim is similar. I found it helpful to loosen the bottom trim piece, between the doors. I pulled that piece off the rear part of the front door.

At the back, the center trim piece snaps off.

The pieces around the bottom of the rear hatch supports have a screw that holds them on.

The pieces around the rear windows have one screw, and snap off.

It is easier than these directions "sound". Just take your time, think it through. It might be nice to have an extra set of hands to help support it as you remove it from the car. And also to help get it started back in. It is kinda fragile, just be careful.

I had never done it before, but I managed.

I've done it before...when I went to wyotech and took trim & upholstery. It's fairly simple to take off, re-upholster and re-install.

Was thinking about re-upholstering my headliner if I cant get it clean enough. What process and materials are you using for the re-upholstering...?
