I had a 1986 Subaru GL front wheel drive that ran great but had no 4wd and began to rot away around me. Next.. a Peugeot 505 turbo, then a Honda Accord, now the 98 Legacy Outback for the last 9 years. I went to the Subaru for the 4wd with fuel economy. I got the 4wd which I love deeply but 20 mpg still hurts after the Accord. Sacrifice.

I enjoy the how to forums. It looks like they're mixed in here? I'm not a speedfreak, but I've had tickets... none lately. At 167,00 miles I've decided to make a hobby out of keeping her going. Recently did HG's, seals, idlers,T-belt, oil separator, etc ... I bled.

Fan for life,Trev

Welcome to the forums. FYI, Subies have a habit of turning in to bottomless money pits. It has nothing to do with reliability or anything breaking. The problem is things barely ever break, so you spend everything on upgrades. Lol.

Welcome!! Good to see you came over!!!! Feel free to post up some pics of your car. And the how-to section is slowly growing, feel free to add to it!!

Yeah, modifying is a habit!

Just a heads up, but I got 35.5mpg on my last tank, mostly city with two trips from yarmouth-portland on the highway.

Welcome! What kind of condition is the car in? Still sparkly or all beat up on the outside?

Also, did you do the water pump while you had the Tbelt off?

You do have to remember Nate, this is a Legacy Outback, not an Impreza Outback like yours. It will get no where near the gas mileage yours will. It has lower gears and it's much heavier.
