I just got a new fmic for my sti but since ive never installed one before I was hoping someone on here with some experience might be able to help me out?

Yea I checked out evans its a great writeup I just know im going to run into some sort of issues and it would be nice to have someone with some mechanical know how. Yea ferrari if you could give me a hand that would be awesome. My cars an 07 so the setup is alittle different then evans.

FMIC install is an intricate project, even with a kit that's "supposed" to bolt right up. prepare to be patient and careful and accept the fact your car may be down for a good long while

WRX engine bay is incredibly tight space, already packed to the max with systems...and somehow you have to cram even more stuff in there.

the 07 nose is quite different from 02-05s. front bulkhead is lower, headlight units MUCH bulkier (harder to route stuff around) and the outer corners much more rounded off than earlier cars. All this will no doubt affect how the fmic plumbing fits. you will almost assuredly find that you'll need to sculpt (ie hack, cut, fit) here and there, and may have to relocate things like power steering reservoirs, etc.

short answer is, fmic install is NOT a shade tree, one-afternoon kind of project

God damn that was a grandma!! 15 hours and two days later its on. I have a bunch of pictures of the whole thing which I will try and figure out how to post here when I get home. It started off easy remove front mount, relocate coolant overflow, bumper, etc.

Then things got difficult when we got to the bumper beam and those 4 freaken bolts, well mainly just the last one was a nightmare 2 hours on that thing heating cutting and pulling it finally comes off. After that cutting the bumper was fun. It came out decent although I still have to tweak it with a razer blade.

congrats on surviving the project with all your fingers attached...if they still are of course.

we had a good few blood spots on the rally car after finishing the FMIC install...then before long stuffed it into a big rock in the ditch nose-first. :

At least it was easier to replace the smooshed bits since all the fun hacking and bolt-heating was already done. And we had skillfully avoided actually hitting the cooler itself in the rock. ;D

you DID never-siez those bumper bolts before piutting em back in, dintcha? >

Well I have a picture but im to lazy to post it. Can I send it to someone to post it for me? Please ;D

I must've been lucky mine came off without any kind of extraordinary effort.
yeah, mine came off with a 12" ratchet, pretty easily actually. i'm surprised yours were so stuck on.

I'd mount that license plate by the holes only, which would allow for better air flow over the IC. Not sure how horribly it would affect cooling system's performance, but hey - until you blow up, you'd have nice cool intake air ;D

Any way you can cool off that intercooler more is better...in theory. I'll defer to the resident thermodynamics guru(s) to answer that one for you.
