ok well while jump starting my sisters car today i noticed my car was one big scratch in the sunlight. i have been very carefull when washing it using a chamois mit and "the absorber" when drying but there are scratches all over. any suggestions on soemthign to use when washign the car that might work better that i can pick up locally.

i guess i have to wax my car now to get rid of all those scracthes. has anyone had any experince with the new ice wax that goes on clear? if not what wax do you guys suggest? what about clay bar any suggestions on brand?

Clay bars are great! I think I used mothers, but your going to want to wax the car after the clay bar. She'll be really shiny!

use 2 bucket method when washing and MF mitt. I use MF drying towels. make sure your absorber is clean, very clean. use Meg's synthetic sealant for hiding the swirls and top off with megs wax. also I use megs clays (blue) but the one froma kit is good enough. make sure u fold often and use plenty of lube. (QD)

lol i knwo that ive claybared/waxed about 8 times i knwo u wash clay bar wash then wax but trying to find out peoples experince with diffrent waxes and if anyoen has used ice

my main thing is i wanna knwo what peopel wash there cars with because i knwo that's how myne got scratched. maybe i just need to wash my mit int he washign machine every 2-3 times iw ash my car

being a former natl-level concours guy in another life, I discov ered that most paint damage comes from improper washing. here is an approach to basic washing that cuts way down on surface damage

flush car with lots of low pressure water (not reg spray nozzle), this removes most dust and accumulated grit. I have a 18" section of old hose that screws onto end of my pistol grip nozzel, this allows a smooth stream of water to flush the surface before washing, this setup is also ideal for rinsing

then wash surface gently with soft bristle brush...MUCH less cratching than MF towels, since brush gently loosens grit and then water flushes it away. the 2-bucket rinse is good--one bucket to rinse brush, another with suds for actual washing. idea is the mnake sure the brush is really clean, cuz a dirty brush is like taking fine grit sandpaper to your car (as Kristof has discovered)

once surface is clean, towel gently with cotton bath towels (wives and g/fs should not read this post

) that are washed and dried regularly. keep these towels religiously clean...if u drop one in dri veway, get another. towels hold more grit and cause more scratches than anythig

the whole issue of glazes sealers clay bars etc is a whole nother can o wormies

ive used TW ice. love that stuff. use it everytime i wash on my headlights and mirrors. keeps the headlights looking clear and makes for easy cleaning of bugs off the mirrors and lights. i wax the car a couple times a year (ive only done it twice since its new) after every wash while drying i use a wax as you dry product by eagle one. you spray it on a wet car a little area at a time and wipe it into the paint.

my car ALWAYS beads water and stays looking shiney.

have you used the ice on your paint or just your lights? oh and did you get my pm i sent you?

PM?? nope.

yah ive used it on the cars paint twice. came out awesome! no worries about it getting on the black plastic and leaving that nasty white film.... in fact they tell you to use it on the plastic.

ive done my windows once, and def use on the tail/head lights.

You've clayed it 8 times already ?!? That's way way too many times for a brand new car like yours. Once or twice a year is all you need for claying.

If you can feel the scratch with your finger nail, then you'll never be able to fully get rid of it, but you can make it less noticeable with proper polishing.

lmao no i ment i have done it 8 time sin my life on other cars i have owned lmao
Ohh ok good lol. I was like damn already 8 times on his 09 STI

?

Anyway, invest in one of these. It's probably one of the best investments I've ever made. Once you learn to use it properly, you can fix 90% fine scratches, swirls, and oxidation, and apply waxes and sealants much more efficiently and faster.

It's almost impossible to do any real damage to your paint with one of these. Since it's just a random orbital buffer, it's pretty user friendly... even though there are some pads for it that can do damage to your paint if you're not careful. It's not a rotary buffer, which you absolutely need to know what you're doing or you'll screw up your paint big time.

Meh. She's all covered in hail dents from driving down the highway in quarter sized hail, rock chips and dents from 7 years of hard rally abuse, and she just gets dirty again anyway. She likes it like that.
