Help with certain noise!

I've been hearing this "ringing sound" only in the past two months. Finally just got a video of it. I have had the AEM cai for over a year and have never heard this sound before. It only occurs when I accelerate or go full throttle at 3500 rpm prior to the whoosh of the intake. Anyone have an idea?

Hey Boon I cranked it up and I didn`t here anything unusal

i am hitting target boost and I have the perrin cat back. There's this ringing sound right when i accelerate. It's pretty pronounced. I hear it because i'm driving the car and I know what to listen for but it's there. As I said that noise was not there before. I just hope it doesn't have anything to do with the turbo. Maybe at the meet someone can take a drive down the road and listen to it in car.

I have heard of the Perring cat back (for the 08-09 sedans) making a "whistle" they called it. To me it sounds more like the ringing im hearing from your car. It apparently had something to do with the mid pipe somehow.

Hope its not your turbo.... Hard to diagnose from a sound clip though.

Hmmmmm. Hope its not a sloppy shaft in your turbo. Is the sound associated with the rpms like you stated? Or boost level? Because those are def different.

You say over 3500rpms, but its it only once you are pulling 12+ psi of boost?

if i just mash on the accelerator from 0 mph then at 3500 rpm the noise will start and continue until i take my foot off the accelerator. At 3500 rpm i would most likely be in boost and that level would probably be 12+psi but i have not looked at the boost gauge when doing the video. I'll just wait until Wednesday so you can hear.

Ok. Ill take a listen. Im not too sure ill know what it is. Im just trying to get the most pertinent info out of you i can. I was hoping somone else would be more helpful.

i have taken the intake off, checked for rips and secured it back on tightly as my learning views have been normal after datalogging.

Do you have a general direction of the sound? Turbo side? Driver's side? Underneath? Out back?

definitely from the front part of the engine near i would say the air intake side but in the engine compartment. I revved the engine in park up past 3500 rpm and the noise is not there so it's only during acceleration.

what's this park you speak of?

I can't guess why it makes the sound under stress versus not without stress. I know I have a sort of whining whenever I really push my car. I assume my whine is just intake and/or some belt.

Its making me think it has to do with boost levels (turbo) related issues.

If you rev the car up in park. You are making revs, but no boost to speak up.

Do youself a favor and see if the noise is there with high revs with no boost. Take off slow and slowly climb in speed. So you can take up the engine rpms, but no boost.

Park, as in, he has an auto tranny and doesn't want his car to roll into the river.

Your car is an N/A, his is a turbo. Different animal.

But both species have belts and an intake, which is why I mentioned them...
